Katatonia Announce New Album Sky Void of Stars, Premiere First Single “Atrium”

0

Next year already looks like it’s starting off pretty strong, but add a new Katatonia album in the mix and you have a 2023 that’s going to start off on one hell of a footing.

That’s right, just moments ago the Swedish gothic prog metal band simultaneously unveiled their 12th studio effort titled Sky Void of Stars and released its first single and accompanying music video “Atrium” to various streaming services. Slated for a January 20, 2023 release via Napalm Records, the album is the follow up to 2020’s City Burials.

“Our 12th album, Sky Void of Stars is a dynamic journey through vibrant darkness. Born out of yearning for what was lost and not found, the very peripheries of the unreachable, but composed and condensed into human form and presented as sounds and words true to the Katatonia signum. No stars here, just violent rain.”

The new track definitely matches its accompanying video very well. I’m definitely getting some “rainy day listening” vibes from this one, as it leans more towards the band’s more goth sounding side of things, likely leaving the heavier aspects of Katatonia for other tracks on the forthcoming record. Only time will tell if that’s the case though.

So yeah, we’re pretty stoked. You can check out the new track and music video below. Sky Void of Stars will be available on January 20, 2023, though you can preorder a copy today via Nuclear Blast.

Oh and let’s not forget that Katatonia will be touring the U.S. for the first time in five years for a 24-date run starting next month. And for our readers in Europe, the band will start 2023 by taking their show all over the continent for a little over a month. You can peep all those dates under the video.
