Sh*t That Comes Out Today – December 2, 2022
It’s December and the schedule is slow, but these new titles make great winter jams. We’ve got ’em all available via our pals at Gimme Metal…
Hammers of Misfortune
New vocalist Jamie Myers (ex-Sabbath Assembly) steps up to the plate for Overtaker and hits a home run. Hammers of Misfortune’s first record in six years, Overtaker is a barn burner that includes lots of aggressive, shrieking thrash as well as the psychedelic vocals that Myers has become known for. Not the most ambitious Hammers of Misfortune album, but an absolutely killer entry in their discography. Grab it.
Triumph Beyond Adversity (Unique Leader)
Do you like tech death? Because boy do I have some tech death for you. Following up their 2021 EP The Beginning, Triumph Beyond Adversity sees the band building on the sound they established for a promising debut. The members of Obvurt are Canadian scene veterans and it shows in the performances. CDs available via Gimme Metal.
Premonition (Domino Recording Co.)
Vancouver punks White Lung are calling it a day with Premonition, their fifth album. From the band: “We recorded this album four years ago and in that time each of our lives has grown and changed so much,” the band members said in a statement. “We felt like this record was the right endpoint and we are happy the songs will finally be released.” White Lung will be missed, but it’s always nice to see bands end it on their own terms.
The Stripped Sessions
Metalcore mainstays Wage War have taken a decidedly softer approach on The Stripped Sessions, compiling acoustic and stripped-down versions of their songs. It’s the type of release that should appeal to both the diehard fans and metalcore haters alike. Get yourself an LP.
