Sisu’s Red Band Trailer Tells a Metal as F*ck Tale of Gold, Grit, and Demolished Nazis

Let me preface this by saying that I know the upcoming gonzo action movie Sisu isn’t based on a real story, but boy do I fucking wish it was. Written and directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, starring Jorma Tommila, and backed by the studio that brought us the gun-fest known as the John Wick series, Sisu looks to be the perfect movie if you like bloody carnage and dead fascists.

Rather than go over the plot, I’ll let the folks at Lionsgate sum it up for ya:

“During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back – even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path. Lionsgate presents, in association with Stage 6 Films, a Subzero Film Entertainment production, in association with Good Chaos.”

Again, it’s not real but it should be noted that there was a lot of fucked up shit that happened near the end of World War II, as the German war machine ground to a halt and began losing ground to Allied and Russian forces. War’s already a fucked up situation and soldiers on both sides did some fucked up shit, so the idea the Nazis would steal a prospector’s gold is plausible.

The idea of a one-man death squad killing a Nazi by throwing a landmine at their head? It’s badass as fuck, but not plausible at all.

After checking out the trailer below, tell me you don’t want to see how absolutely fucking bananas this movie gets. We’ll all soon get a chance when Sisu hits theaters on April 28.
