Ohio Man Assaults Def Leppard Drummer Outside Florida Hotel
Drummer Rick Allen, known as the man behind the kit for Def Leppard, had an unusual and scary experience on Saturday, March 11 when a man attacked him outside of a Fort Lauderdale Florida hotel he was staying at. According to 7 News, Allen was in town for the band’s show with Mötley Crüe and was having a smoke in the Four Seasons valet area when he was attacked.
According to the police report, Allen was assaulted by Max Edward Hartley, a 19 year old who was visiting from Ohio. Bailey posted bond from Broward County Jail on Tuesday and declined to tell a reporter why he would assault a man with one arm or if he was aware that Allen is Def Leppard’s drummer, with the original article noting he turned away from the reporter when asked if he was a Def Leppard fan.
According to the report, Hartley was standing behind a pillar while Allen was smoking before he tackled him to the ground, causing the drummer to hit his head and sustain an injury. A woman apparently ran out of the hotel to help Allen and the police report states that Hartley attacked her as well:
“While she is on the ground, the defendant continues to batter her by striking her. [She] attempts to escape by running into the hotel. The defendant then grabs [her] by her hair and drags her out of the lobby and back onto the sidewalk before fleeing the area.”
Hartley was found nearby breaking car windows nearby and was arrested. Allen provided a sworn statement to police and will be pressing charges. The suspect was charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief, and abusing an elderly or disabled adult.
Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard have plenty of tour dates coming up this year, but please act accordingly.
