High Costs Force Persefone Off North American Tour with Ne Obliviscaris and Beyond Creation

In a story that’s becoming all too common these days, yet another band is forced to cancel their touring plans because the costs are just too damn high. This time, it’s Andorran progressive death metal act Persefone, who’s had to put the kibosh on their upcoming North American tour with Ne Obliviscaris and Beyond Creation.

According to a statement posted by the band earlier today, rising prices on things like transportation essentially forced the band’s hand, as they estimated that they would be $30,000 in the hole after the tour. That means that even including ticket or merch sales — the latter of which venues typically take a cut out of — they wouldn’t be able to cover the costs. And that’s not including the fact that the last tour they went on apparently resulted in the loss of $8,000 worth of equipment.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce today our withdrawal from the upcoming US Tour this next October along Ne Obliviscaris and Beyond Creation.

“The final decision not to continue with this particular tour is linked to many different reasons, from the purely economic side to very personal complications regarding some members of the band.

“As many bands are pointing out, touring these days is very expensive, but we have managed to meet every touring commitment we have been part of until this very US Tour.

“Prices on critical areas of touring such as transportation have been increasing far away from our economic capabilities in the last months, increasing the debt after the tour up to minus 30.000$.

“When this reality started to manifest we tried very hard to figure out any solution not to cancel our appearance on this tour. From increasing bank loans to a crowdfunding campaign. But then the personal situation of two members of the band made it impossible for them to be able to come to the tour even finding an unlikely solution for the economic side of the problem.

“On top of all this madness, the company we hired to transport all the gear from our last EU tour, lost equipment valued in about 8000€, adding that number to the economic pressure we are always facing and leaving us with no choice than having to replace all that gear by ourselves.

“We want to keep making this band grow, and we will keep touring as much as we can, but the overall situation for this particular one is just too much for us to endure.

“We are sure and we wish that the tour will be a huge success for all the bands involved, and we will really miss meeting all our friends in the US, and we will do everything in our power to come back to the US as soon as we can.

“Thank you very much for all the support.”

As a result of their backing out, The Omnific have stepped up to fill the open spot on the bill. As such, the tour will continue without Persefone.
