Avenged Sevenfold Play with Dolls in Their “Mattel” Music Video
Earlier this week, Avenged Sevenfold got back on their bullshit and posted some weird shit on their social media accounts. At the time, we saw a video of Barbie giving birth to another Barbie, a doctor being pretty odd about the whole thing, and then a weird Barbie showing up and being an edgy nihilist about things. We (action) figured that this was likely in preparation for the band to drop a music video for “Mattel,” and it turns out we were right.
Within the last hour, the band posted the new music video, which shows a Barbie going through the motions in life before things go decidedly off the rails. And while this isn’t exactly the first time a band or artist used dolls in a stop motion music video in the last year, something about this just hits different. Maybe it’s the odd direction A7X has taken with their latest album Life Is But A Dream or maybe it’s the fact that we just went through that whole “Barbenheimer” thing over the summer, who knows?
Seriously, though. Even though the video was directed by Zoe Katz, it’s almost like a bad trip at times, which makes sense given the discussion of psychedelics surrounding the album’s release.
