Jack Black and Some Teens Slayed “Mr. Crowley” for Tom Morello’s Mom’s 100th Birthday

Who doesn’t like a good cover band to provide entertainment for a get together? I’m talking a group of local musicians so talented, you don’t care that their keyboardist isn’t using the right patch or the fact that the singer’s gripping the lyrics like their life depended on it. They just rock.

Such was the case when famous actor and massive metalhead Jack Black teamed up with a couple teenagers to crush the Ozzy Osbourne classic “Mr. Crowley” for Tom Morello’s mother Mary’s 100th birthday. Thanks to a recent Instagram post by the Rage Against The Machine guitarist, we got a front row view of the performance, complete with Tom’s son Roman holding down Randy Rhodes’ part on guitar.

If you check out the clip, you can see what ends up effectively being a School of Rock-esque performance, with the teens laying it down while Black belts out Ozzy’s occult-inspired lyrics about Aleister Crowley.

Along with Morello and Black, other famous rockers there to honor Morello’s mom naturally included his bandmates Zack de la Rocha, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, along with Jane’s Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell and System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian.

Even as it seems like Ozzy’s been skating on the brink of retirement thanks to his health issues (which hopefully seem like they’re getting better, by the way), it’s good to know that at least the kids are alright.
