Ozzy Osbourne Nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for His Solo Career

0

Eighteen years after his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath back in 2006, heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne has a shot at becoming a two-time inductee, as it was announced earlier today that the singer was being considered for his solo career.

In response to his nomination, Ozzy took to Twitter to express his excitement and gratitude for the nomination.

“I’m deeply honored to receive this news from the @RockHall. To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”

As the only metal act nominated this year, it’s great he’s getting the recognition but it further highlights just how little the Rock Hall gives a shit about metal. Especially galling is the fact that of the 15 artists and bands nominated, they couldn’t name any other metal acts for nomination. Seriously? Still no Motörhead? No Iron Maiden? How about the rest of the Big Four?! What a fuckin’ joke.

And that’s not at all to take away from the other nominees, but god damn man. For the record, the full list of nominees is as follows:

  • Mary J. Blige
  • Mariah Carey
  • Cher
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • Eric B. & Rakim
  • Foreigner
  • Peter Frampton
  • Jane’s Addiction
  • Kool & the Gang
  • Lenny Kravitz
  • Oasis
  • Sinead O’Connor
  • Ozzy Osbourne
  • Sade
  • A Tribe Called Quest

Speaking of the Class of 2024, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes praised the level of diversity found within the list of nominees.

“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates.”

With the nominee announcement now in the rear view, fans can now vote on which artists should be inducted this year. Polls will remain open until April 26, with finalists revealed shortly after that. The ceremony will take place later this year.
