Sh*t That Comes Out Today – October 6, 2023

It’s National Body Language Day, so if I’ve got headphones on and I’m silently nodding to the music, that’s your cue to fuck off.

Capra

Errors (Metal Blade Records/Blacklight Media Records)

Stuffed full of the same sort of frenetic riffs, pummeling rhythms, and biting vocal delivery you’d expect from Louisiana-based metallic hardcore act Capra, Errors is an album that grabs you by the collar from the very start. Even though this is only the band’s second full-length release, it definitely feels like the natural progression from their 2021 album In Transmission. You can just tell by listening to this record how hungry they are as a band.

Carnifex

Necromanteum (Nuclear Blast)

When this Necromanteum was announced back in July, this Cali-based deathcore group basically said it was about rich people using a special room in their homes to talk to the dead. It’s a trippy concept that honestly seems like a better use of wealth than Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter…

And while that’s all fine and dandy, I’m here for the absolutely wild shit the band has to offer on Necromanteum. It’s fast, it’s heavy, it’s fucking brutal, and it demands your attention.

Dopelord

Songs For Satan (Blues Funeral Recordings)

You want fuzz? You want slow, crushing riffs? You want to nod along to songs of the occult and Satan? Then stop what you’re doing and crank Songs For Satan as loud as you can. I’ll follow the sound and bring my bong.

The Keening

Little Bird (Relapse Records)

With this being the first Friday of October, we’d be remiss if we didn’t include some hauntingly melodic tunes to get you in the mood for spooky season. As the solo project of ex-SubRosa leader Rebecca Vernon, Little Bird is a doomy exploration of sound that sounds like the musical embodiment of autumn’s systematic death spiral into winter. It’s cold, it’s somber, and it’s gorgeous.

Prong

State Of Emergency (SPV/Steamhammer)

Feelin’ pissed off and want to let off some steam? Prong’s got ya covered. As their 13th studio album, the New York City metal act are leveraging State Of Emergency as yet another avenue to throw the middle finger to all the bullshit going on in today’s world. It’s good ol’ guitar driven metal with a tinge of that East Coast aggression that makes Republicans shit themselves in fear. Oh and the album’s got a cover of Rush’s “Working Man,” so that alone makes it worthy of your time.
