Wacken Metal Battle Canada Accepting Applications

0

Are you part of a Canadian metal band and want to one day play Wacken Open Air? Your chance to make that dream a reality is here, as the annual Wacken Metal Battle has made its way to the Great White North. And at the end of it, one indie metal act will get the chance of a lifetime by becoming their country’s representative at the festival’s international battle of the bands.

According to the rules, only unsigned bands can apply. Just as in past years, dozens of bands will participate in a tournament-style competition at various cities around the country. Eventually, only one will be chosen and they’ll end up heading over to Germany.

Last year’s winner, Trois-Rivières, QC’s Strigampire ended up winning it all in Canada before going face to face against bands from other nations. Other previous Wacken Metal Battle Canada winners include: The Slyde (Toronto, ON – 2019), Centuries of Decay (Toronto, ON – 2018), Profaner (Hamilton, ON – 2016), Vesperia (Toronto, ON – 2015), Mutank (Montreal, QC – 2014), and Crimson Shadows (Toronto, ON – 2013).

For the 2024 battles, bands will have to hoof it to one of the competitions happening at the following cities:

  • Vancouver, BC,
  • Edmonton, AB
  • Calgary, AB
  • Toronto, ON
  • Ottawa, ON
  • Montreal, QC
  • Quebec City, QC

Ultimately, the winners of those competitions will head out to Edmonton for the finals. Whoever wins there gets to go to Wacken.

So if you’d like to give it a shot, you’ve got about a month before the December 15 deadline to apply.
