Billie Eilish Streamed Darkest Hour to Her Instagram Followers

0

Pop star and apparent hardcore fan Billie Eilish recently blasted her more than 110 million Instagram followers with some heavy riffs from Darkest Hour, whether they wanted to hear them or not.

We know some folks get hung up on gatekeeping when they hear news like this, but it’s really not surprising that the pop icon is a fan. Earlier this year, she shared a clip of herself listening to some other metalcore icons It Dies Today. She was streaming their 2004 track “A Threnody For Modern Romance.” She also wore Rob Zombie and Cradle of Filth art on stage, performed “Misery Business” live with Paramore, and paid tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins at the Grammys. She’s clearly a fan of more than just top 40 pop.

Plus, regardless of how Darkest Hour fans feel about Eilish — or if some Eilish fans were turned off by the extreme metal — this is great free publicity for the band.

This crossover between alt pop and metalcore isn’t so surprising, as many millennials who listen to Eilish and other pop also went through a metalcore phase or still listen to the genre today, and vice versa. Here’s to hoping that Eilish enjoyed jamming out—and Darkest Hour enjoyed the extra attention.

Originally hailing from D.C., Darkest Hour have been around since 1995 and are one of the pioneering metalcore bands. The Instagram story Eilish shared, which you can see a screen grab of below, featured Darkest Hour’s deep cut “DEMON(S),” from their 2007 album Deliver Us. The band responded by resharing this on their own socials, seemingly showing that they were happy for the support.

If you’re also a Darkest Hour fan just like Eilish, look out for their 10th studio album and first in seven years, Perpetual / Terminal, out via MNRK Heavy on February 23.
