Watch Metallica Become the Second International Metal Band to Play Saudi Arabia

0

A couple of weeks ago, Metallica announced that they were planning on breaking ground and becoming the first international metal band to ever play the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was supposed to be yet another feather (albeit a blood-soaked one…) in their cap. And then Cryptopsy beat them to the punch.

Welp. Such is life, but it turns out the show must go on. So last night, they took the stage as part of the Soundstorm Festival in Riyadh to play a sixteen-song set full of classic bangers and new-school songs. For a vast majority of Saudis in the audience, this was the first time they got to witness a live set from a foreign metal band at all, so it goes without saying that this was kind of a big deal.

According to Setlist.FM, Metallica’s setlist from last night’s show went as follows:

  1. Creeping Death
  2. For Whom The Bell Tolls
  3. Wherever I May Roam
  4. The Memory Remains
  5. Lux Æterna
  6. Too Far Gone?
  7. Fade To Black
  8. Fuel
  9. Orion
  10. Nothing Else Matters
  11. Sad But True
  12. The Unforgiven
  13. Seek & Destroy
  14. One
  15. Master Of Puppets
  16. Enter Sandman

As it stands, with Metallica’s the sole metal band to play all seven continents, as they’ve also played Antarctica during their Freeze ‘Em All concert on December 8, 2013. Once they play every country on the planet, then they’ll have to figure out some new frontiers to conquer as a band.

With the end of the year fast approaching, it’s safe to say that Metallica’s done with their live commitments for a while. In fact, you won’t be able to catch them live until late May and even then, that’s for a quick 10-date run through Europe. Metallica won’t make it back to the States until August.
