Dee Snider Really Doesn’t Like Spotify’s CEO

0

Earlier this year, we reported on massive layoffs at Spotify after the CEO made a bunch of cuts to staff. Always ready to speak up and not afraid to get political, Twisted Sister‘s Dee Snider had something to say about the CEO in question.

What Snider is referring to is what CEO Daniel Ek said in an interview with Music Ally, where he claimed, “You can’t record music once every three to four years and think that’s going to be enough.” He added that, “Artists today that are making it realize that it’s about creating a continuous engagement with their fans.”

In an interview with The Jeremy White Show, which you can stream below, Snider clapped back and told the world just what he thought about what EK had to say.

“That guy from Spotify [in reference to Ek]. I wanna tell you, he should be taken out and shot. When he heard that artists were complaining about how little we get paid, his response was ‘make more music’—like we’re producing cans of Coke. Just [increase] the production. [It’s] insulting and belittling.”

He also talked a bit about what, in his opinion, artists could still do to stay competitive and make money:

“For me, it’s licensing. The licensing is the last godsend, the last oasis where you can actually make some money. Steven Spielberg chooses ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ for the finale of Ready Player One. Thank you, God, ’cause I’m not getting anything from Spotify.”

We think most of the underground music community probably agrees with Snider, especially those who aren’t anywhere as well known. It seems that after all this time, Twister Sister’s fuck-the-man attitude is still very much needed.
