Survey Finds Metalheads Don’t Take Care of Their Health and Lie to Their Doctors

“If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.” It’s a simple statement that honestly rings true for a lot of people. You’ve only got one body and according to a recent survey, if you like metal there’s a good chance you might not be taking care of yourself.

That bit of info comes from a recent study conducted by Fractl for Tebra that not only looked at the music that healthcare professionals play in their waiting rooms and while people are put on hold, but also looks at the habits of certain music fans.

Of the 1,002 Americans that were surveyed about their health habits and musical preferences, 58% were rock fans and 15% were metal fans. The rest of respondents broke down as follows: 50% were pop fans, 25% were hip-hop/rap fans, 18% were R&B fans, 16% liked country, 15% liked classical music, 13% listened to electronic, 13% listened to indie, and 12% listened to jazz.

Researchers also found that metal fans are the fifth least healthy music fans, with country fans being the healthiest, apparently. And on top of that, researchers also learned that 23% of the self-described metalheads admitted that they were dishonest with their doctors. Which, you know, isn’t helpful since they’re not mind readers.

And that would be an even worse issue if metalheads went to the doctor at all. The survey found that metal fans visited the doctor the least frequently at 27%.

As far as what people like to listen to while waiting for healthcare, you’d also be shocked to find out that metal is the genre that people want to hear the absolute least — so bring your headphones if you want to listen to Cannibal Corpse while waiting for someone to help you avoid becoming a corpse.
