Can we wrap up this whole ‘it’s cold’ thing?! It’s getting real tired now. Whatever, here’s some of this week’s new releases.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today – February 2, 2024

Enterprise Earth

Death: An Anthology (MNRK Heavy)

Deathcore outfit Enterprise Earth return with their fifth full-length album, Death: An Anthology. If you’re a fan of modern deathcore, this one’s not going to disappoint. It’s equal parts angry, aggressive, and at times melodic, while maintaining that slow, plodding chug you’d want in the breakdowns. Our reviewer C.C. DeLorean said the album “surprised the hell out of me,” so that’s saying something.

Ghoul

Noxious Concoctions (Tankcrimes)

Splatterthrash purveyors Ghoul dialed up the gross and grimy in their first new full-length release in eight years, titled Noxious Concoctions. Mandy Scythe said “every track is a banger” on this EP, with all but the Funerot cover showcasing just how wild and over the top Ghoul can really take things. Maybe just don’t eat before hitting play…

meth.

SHAME (Prosthetic Records)

Experimental and heavy, this new offering from meth. has elements of noise, sludge, grindcore, and more. It’s an eclectic sound that manages to remain a cohesive listen despite the twists and turns the band takes throughout the album. Once again, our reviewer Mandy Scythe said the album was “poetic and not fully direct,” stating that the album’s “entire aesthetic…is a testament to all the negativity we try to block out, but still can’t totally keep at bay.”

Necrowretch

Swords Of Dajjal (Season of Mist)

French blackened death metal act Necrowretch return with their fifth studio release Swords of Dajjal, offering a hellaciously bombastic slate of new tunes. This one deals with anti-theistic themes and the band’s own exploration into Satanism, so you know — pretty much par for the course.

Persefone - 'Lingua Ignota: Part I' cover

Persefone

Lingua Ignota: Part I (Napalm Records

As the second EP from Persephone, reviewer Jordan Blum said Lingua Ignota: Part I is “an awe-inspiring testament to Persefone’s stylistic hegemony and personal/professional resilience.” It’s extreme/tech death metal to its core, and further proof that after all this time, they’ve still got it.
