Rob Halford Wants to Take a Selfie with Sleep Token’s Vessel

When it comes to nice guys in metal that find themselves way above all the bullshit “rhetoric” online, there’s few better than the “Metal God” himself, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford. Not only does he think Ghost can “re-energize” rock music, but he’s apparently into Sleep Token.

While speaking with Pablo of the Minneapolis, Minnesota radio station 93X, Halford said that among the up-and-coming metal bands making waves these days, he’s been turned on to the “curious band” that people seemingly love to hate online.

“Yeah, there’s a lot of importance being put in the direction of this band called Sleep Token. And they’re a really curious band in what they’re putting out in terms of all of these different textures. They’re very difficult to pin down. That’s what I find intriguing as a musician listening to their music. It’s going to a lot of different places, and I think that there isn’t any other band out there right now that’s able to do that. Because most bands have a specific sound and direction and idea that they project. And then you kind of fine-tune into that. But you can’t really nail them down, if that’s the expression.

“And, of course, the guys have been around for a few years; they’re not, like, suddenly here they are. They’ve worked hard to get to this place of recognition. But I really like all the extra textures of the way that they look and the way that they’re talking.”

Halford went on to explain the dynamics of the band, which honestly feels like a more R&B/soul-infused take of what Ghost has done for so many years now.

During his chat, Halford even said he’d want to treat a meeting with Sleep Token’s Vessel like he said he wanted to do with Dolly Parton during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony — he’s gonna get a picture with him.

“They have a [singer] called Vessel. One day The Metal God and Vessel will take a selfie together; I predict that. So, there’s something cool.”

Personally, I hope that sort of thing happens, if only to see the internet explode for a bit and TikTok fangirlies to ask who Vessel’s grandpa is in the photo.
