Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol Offers Up Some Extra Chunky “Peanut Butter Snack Sticks”

0

Metal doesn’t have to be so fucking complicated all the time. Crazy time signatures, vocals verging on the operatic, and drum patterns so intricate that only a computer could replicate them are fun, sure, but whatever happened to big, dumb, simplicity? Sometimes you just want a knuckle-dragging riff with pounding drums and some dude singing about nostalgia-wrapped food.

If you find yourself in that latter camp, then look no further than Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol’s new single “Peanut Butter Snack Sticks.” Not content to just “Whip It Around” anymore, they’ve opted to take a trip down memory lane for a little bit of old school enjoyment “just like mama packed it.”

Is there some extra meaning behind the song? Maybe some existential quandary that only a lunch snack can possibly answer? Probably not. But what we do know after listening to this track is that Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol enjoy the hell out of writing big, dumb songs. At least, that’s according to bassist Aaron Metzdorf, hence the upcoming album’s title, Big Dumb Riffs.

“Our catalog has never been short on big dumb riffs, but the idea on this record was to really turn the screw.

“We just wanted ‘the part’: The opening of Pantera’s ‘Primal Concrete Sledge’, the breakdown in Primus’ ‘Pudding Time’ — the shit that makes you move and lose your mind. Just that part the whole time.”

Remember, this is just one of 11 tracks off of Big Dumb Riffs, releasing on streaming services and for download on March 22, but you can preorder your physical copy today.

Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol is also heading out on a U.S. tour next month, with dates starting on March 9 in Houston, Texas and coming to a close on May 10 in San Antonio, Texas. You can find the full list of dates below. Just make sure you bring enough snacks for everyone.
