Alice Cooper Announces First New Album with Original Line Up Since 1973
In the last 24 hours, Alice Cooper has shared some huge news. Not only is the 77-year-old shock rocker releasing a new album this July, but it’s going to feature the band’s original members.
Set for release on July 25 via earMUSIC, The Revenge Of Alice Cooper will feature surviving original band members Michael Bruce on guitar, Dennis Dunaway on bass, and Neal Smith on drums. It will be the first time since the release of their 1973 record Muscle of Love that Cooper and those guys will record new music together.
Cooper shared the news with a slightly ominous post on Instagram, writing, “The Revenge is near…” The album is produced by long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin and is set to feature unreleased guitar work from the late Glen Buxton.
Speaking about the new album, Cooper told Billboard in an interview that the album is dedicated to the fallen guitarist, who passed away back in October 1997. According to Cooper, Buxton is represented on two songs: “What Happened to You” is built from the riff on an old demo tape Dunaway and Buxton made together and the limited-edition box set bonus track “Return of the Spiders 2025” is an upgraded remix of a track from the group’s second album Easy Action.
As for whether the reunited lineup will head out on tour, Cooper said a full tour might not be in the cards, but they might do some live gigs in the future.
“We haven’t even gotten to that point yet. I don’t really see it being a full-out tour; it would be very, very hard, I think, if you haven’t done it for a long time. But I could see it being a feature, like going into certain cities — Detroit, New York, L.A., London maybe, and doing a half-hour or 40 minutes in a club or something. We always leave those things open, and if it looks feasible, then we do it.”
