Byzantine Unveil “The Unobtainable Sleep” with Gothic Lyric Video

It might not be New Music Friday, but it’s fair to say we’ve lucked out on plenty of fresh releases today. And adding to that list is groove metal legends, Byzantine, with their brand-new single “The Unobtainable Sleep.”

The track was produced by Peter Wichers (Soilwork, All That Remains, Nevermore) and is shared ahead of the band’s forthcoming seventh studio album, Harbingers.

Speaking about the single, Byzantine guitarist, Brian Henderson says,

“This song title is a dark and poetic definition of death. OJ had a few riffs laying around that were inspired by Extol, Carcass, and Fear Factory, and they fit perfectly together to craft this tune. We specifically wrote an extended solo section to allow our friend from Russia, Andrey Gadzhibalaev, a chance to perform a beautiful guest guitar solo.”

Fans have been waiting for a new Byzantine album for just two years short of a decade. To say Harbingers is a highly anticipated record is an understatement. Following their 2017 full-length The Cicada Tree, Harbingers is rumored to be saturated in 45 minutes of pure thrash metal riotousness.

The record also marks a significant new chapter for the band, as it sees them release their first album as a five-piece. Featuring frontman Chris Ojeda, Brian Henderson on guitar and vocals, Tony Rohrbough on the guitar, Ryan Postlethwait on bass and backing vocals and Matt Bowles on drums.

Harbingers is due for release on June 13 via Metal Blade Records, but you can pre-order it here.
