Tim Charles Says Ne Obliviscaris’ Next Album is Coming in 2026

Ever since the release of their 2023 album Exul, Aussie extreme progressive metal band Ne Obliviscaris has pretty much remained a fixture of the road, touring in support of that album ever since. Though fans and critics alike enjoyed the hell out of Exul, we’re now at the point where the question of “what’s next?” starts to creep into the conversation. During a recent conversation with violinist and clean vocalist Tim Charles during the Chaos and Carnage tour, we now have a rough estimate of when to expect new tunes.

In an interview for MetalSucks, the entirety of which will be posted later this week, Charles revealed that the band’s been working on their follow up to Exul while touring, albeit at a slower pace than originally expected.

“We’re just starting to work on new stuff at the moment. We had been hoping to try to write a bunch on this tour. It hasn’t happened too much so far, but we still have a couple weeks to go. It’s a good opportunity when we’re all in one place to be able to work on some stuff, but we all have home studios and send files back and forth, as we are kind of spread around in all parts of the world.”

With the Chaos and Carnage tour and a short three-date tour in Mexico now behind them, the band has a few weeks to relax before heading out on another five-date run in Australia in mid-June. After that, however, the band seemingly has zero touring responsibilities lined up, which could spell more time working on the new record.

When asked for a more concrete idea as to when fans could expect a new record to emerge, Charles pointed to next year as a possible timeframe.

“Yeah, it’ll be 2026 for sure. I don’t know when but that’s the plan. We want to have it written by the end of this year. We’ve pretty much done the tours we wanted to for Exul; its been our most successful record so far and we have one or two things left to announce for later this year and that will be it. New stuff on the horizon.”

So there you have it. There’s no official announcement of a release date or any other details about the album, but we now know straight from Charles that if everything goes well, we could expect new Ne Obliviscaris some time in 2026.
