Gruesome Continue to Worship the Death Metal Legends with “Condemned Identity”

Don’t let the first 30 seconds of Gruesome‘s latest single “Condemned Identity” fool you. This thing fucking rips. It’s the latest single off their forthcoming album Silent Echoes and damn it if it doesn’t give you hope for the future of old school death metal.

Continuing to display their incredible precision as musicians and their ability to churn out brutal, yet progressive death metal in a style that can only be described as 90s Florida death metal if Chuck Schuldiner didn’t die and was still making tunes in 2025.

Speaking of the track itself, Gruesome said making “Condemned Identity” the opening track for their new record was almost a foregone conclusion as soon as it was completed.

“‘Condemned Identity’ was a no-brainer as the leadoff track for the record, as it comes out of the gate at full-strength, putting all of our cards on the table. I mean, yeah, it’s more articulate and musical than what we’ve done before, but it’s still very much death metal, which I’m very happy about. Even though we’re incorporating more sophisticated stuff, we can still rip your face off.”

Over the last 10 years or so, Gruesome has worked hard at writing Chuck Schuldiner-eqsue riffs and Death-adjacent tunes. And while their previous releases definitely sounded like a tribute to the iconic death metal band, they’ve openly said this time around that Silent Echoes is their attempt at writing and recording a full album in the spirit of Death’s Human.
