Archspire’s Dean Lamb Responds to Album Kickstarter Backlash

0

Oh dear. A band has launched a Kickstarter to help fund the release of their new album. What could go wrong there?

Well, apparently a lot. A few days ago, Archsipre announced a crowdfunding campaign, and in literally 12 hours, they hit their goal (awesome, right). Well, clearly not. Because, in a turn of events, fans don’t seem too pleased about the whole thing.

Following their initial statement, Archspire has since had an influx of negative comments from fans, claiming it to be a “scam.” In response, Archspire guitarist Dean Lamb has weighed in on this.

“All that we want to do as a band is continue to make the stuff that we love to make and reaching out to fans seems like the best way to do it independently. Before this we had a label that would give us an advance for the record and that would be great, but in the end you’re selling the rights to the music you created.

“I’m 37 years old now, I’ve been doing it long enough now. Selling the rights to the music that I spent so many years creating, I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to own it. We all want to own it, each one of us.”

A few days ago, the band announced their split with Season of Mist Records and that they’ve officially gone completely independent. This, as you can imagine, must be a great sense of freedom for the band, but also means a whole new layer of financial setbacks.

Even if a few fans have shared a dislike towards the whole Kickstarter thing, Archspire has already managed to achieve their goal in less than 24 hours.
