Signs of the Swarm’s New Single “Scars Upon Scars” Tackles the “Depriving Lows” of Addiction
Kicking a bad habit like biting your nails can be hard. Fighting an addiction? That’s a drag down, all out brawl for control of your life. And while the subject of combatting addiction is nothing new for extreme music and metal over the decades, Signs of the Swarm seek to highlight just how low things can go in the fight for control with their latest single “Scars Upon Scars.”
Released ahead of the band’s forthcoming album To Rid Myself of Truth, the track is described by vocalist David Simonich as an attempt to make even the most straight-laced person understand what it’s like to tackle addiction.
“‘Scars Upon Scars’ is about my struggles with addiction. I tried to make it accessible for anyone who is dealing with addiction: showcasing the depriving lows of withdrawal and highlighting the hunger that is never satiated. I hope someone can take this piece I’ve given of myself and feel less alone.
“With such direct lyrics, I approached my vocals with influences from hardcore bands I like, such as Jesus Piece, Backtrack and Desolated.”
To Rid Myself of Truth will be released on August 22 via Century Media Records, but you can preorder your copy today. The band will also be hitting the road in North America with Mental Cruelty, ten56., Carcosa, and Face Yourself. You can find the full list of dates below.
