Bobby Liebling’s Past Forces Pentagram to Put Their Australia/New Zealand Tour on Hold

There may have been a resurgence of attention paid to doom metal stalwarts Pentagram earlier this year after a video of vocalist Bobby Liebling went viral, but that added visibility has also led to additional scrutiny that’s now caused the band to put some of its touring plans on hold.

Next month’s previously announced run of dates was supposed to be Pentagram’s first time performing in that part of the world, but an online campaign by local organization the Red Heart Campaign raised concerns over Liebling’s past scrapes with law enforcement. Specifically, they took issue with his 2017 conviction for allegedly abusing his 87-year-old mother, which resulted in 18 months in prison and three years of probation. The group called into question whether someone that had been convicted of elder abuse should be welcome to perform in their community.

As a result, the tour’s promotional company Hardline Media announced the immediate halt of the tour for the time being.

“Due to the current allegations surrounding the Pentagram Australian/New Zealand Tour, Hardline Media have decided to put this tour on hiatus. With great respect, we appreciate your patience and understanding while we manage this situation.”

Anyone that may have already purchased their tickets were alerted of the tour’s status, with the promoter citing “unforeseen recent changes in travel restrictions” as to why the sudden change was necessary.

“This unfortunate turn of events is totally beyond the control of the group, promotion, and our management. At this time, we can only offer our sincerest thanks to the fans, and we regret not being able to perform these shows.”
