Abhorrent Expanse’s ‘Enter The Misanthropocene’ Now Streaming
If you’re looking for a complex piece of music that oozes with style while still pushing the boundaries of extreme metal music, then definitely give Enter The Misanthropocene by midwestern U.S. death/drone outfit Abhorrent Expanse. Just be warned that it’s going to require your full attention while you try to parse the wild sonic U-turns and chaotic energy.
Unwilling to stick directly within their own genre, Abhorrent Expanse have been described in the past as a band that “thrives on contradictions and draws strength from the muddled wastes between firm stylistic distinctions.” Basically, they live and breathe living in the margins, willing to do their own damn thing at the expense of pure cohesion or structure. It’s the type of extreme metal where you’re better off just expecting the unexpected.
Speaking of the album itself, bassist Brian Courage said that sort of aforementioned madness is part and parcel with everything Abhorrent Expanse is doing.
“Building on the palette of textures that we explored on the first album, Enter The Misanthropocene is simultaneously tighter in execution, more conceptually adventurous, and altogether more baffling. Collective improvisation comes from a place of deep musical trust, and the results are gloriously unpredictable. Relentlessly brutal sections, disquieting drones, and frenzied skittering await around each corner. I’m thrilled to bring more truly strange music into the world with this band.”
Now, just one day prior to the album’s release, you can hear the whole damn thing exclusively here on MetalSucks. All 11 new tracks are now at your fingertips — all you’ve gotta do is hit play below.
Enter The Misanthropocene will be released digitally and on CD via Amalgam Music tomorrow, but if you’d like to preorder your copy, you can absolutely do that right now. Oh and be sure to check out the videos for “Drenched Onyx” and their most recent single “Enter the Misanthropocene.”
