Kittie’s Lander Sisters Say the Band Has a “Few Things Brewing Next Year”

Ever since their return back in 2022, Kittie‘s seen a bit of a resurgence. They’ve played some big festivals, released a new album Fire, and basically reminded people that the late 90s/early 2000s were a hell of a time for scrappy new (also nu) metal bands.

At this past weekend’s Aftershock Festival, Kittie drummer Mercedes Lander and her sister/Kittie frontman Morgan discussed all of those topics and more with San Francisco’s 107.7 The Bone. According to the former, the band’s reunion was really the product of persistent nagging/outreach from major booking company Live Nation.

“We could not ignore the e-mails from Live Nation in our inbox any longer… I remember writing Morgan and being like, ‘Hey, we should probably reply back to this guy, ’cause he’s written us at least three times.’”

Similarly, Morgan said the fans were also vocal during that time, mentioning how persistent they’d been over the years that the band get back together.

“It wasn’t just that — it was that more people were listening. Spotify numbers were growing, and people just asking for new music. The voices just continued to get louder and louder.”

What originally was only supposed to be a few festival appearances turned into more press engagements, more interest, and the eventual recording of Fire, the latter of which was facilitated by their signing a deal with Sumerian Records.

Mercedes said all of that happening within such a short timeframe really helped the band see that they were meant to do this sort of thing.

“Our plan was just to play a couple of shows and then be like, ‘Okay, bye.’ … And then that morphed into us getting an offer for a record deal, and then getting to write new music. … We got to work with the dream team — Nick Raskulinecz and Josh Wilbur.”

Naturally, the interview moved to the band’s immediate future, to which Morgan said they were going to take a bit of a break through the rest of 2025, but mentioned that next year was going to be a game changer for them as a band.

“We get to go home and relax. We’ve got a few things brewing next year — more festivals, more shows, maybe some headline stuff. And maybe start thinking about new music too, just for fun.”
