Ace Frehley on Life Support Following Very Serious Fall
Founding Kiss guitarist and rock legend Ace Frehley is currently hospitalized and battling for his life after a serious fall in his studio a couple weeks back. According to a report from TMZ, things have progressed to the point that he’s now been placed on life support as he receives treatment.
The incident that preceded all this had initially been downplayed by people in Frehley’s camp. At the time, it was initially reported that the 74-year-old guitarist would have to cancel only a portion of his planned tour dates, with a statement made via Instagram on September 25 stating that he was being told by his doctor to refrain from travel “against his wishes” because he was “fine.” Since then, he’s had to cancel all of his remaining tour dates, as his prognosis hasn’t gotten any better.
According to reports, Frehley suffered a brain bleed as a result of the fall and has recently been placed on a ventilator. It’s gotten to the point where insiders close to the situation have revealed that the family now has to decide whether or not to keep him on life support. That decision could be made as soon as this evening.
Of course, his passing would be a major loss in the rock world. Frehley was one of the original members of Kiss, along with bandmates Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. From the band’s inception in 1973 until his exit in 1982, he remained a fixture of the band, helping transform it from a unique act to a worldwide blockbuster. He eventually returned to the band in 1996 for a huge reunion tour, where he remained until 2002. Aside from his Kiss work, Frehley carved out a pretty successful solo career as Frehley’s Comet, which utilized his Kiss persona Spaceman to great effect.
We will keep an eye on Frehley’s condition and report back if things change.
