Texas Grocer H-E-B Teams Up with Creator Connor Dwyer for Death Metal T-Shirts
Why can’t every grocery store be this cool? Maybe then it’d help soothe the currently unrelenting prices of trying to feed yourself. While we definitely won’t get anything this cool from other corps, the Texas grocery store chain H-E-B did some cool shit that us metalheads would surely love.
Though they’re definitely sold out now, the grocery chain teamed up with content creator Connor Dwyer to create the coolest thing that’s ever come out of a grocery store—a death metal style shirt, complete with a brutal font and all. Shirts were launched yesterday morning, Friday October 17, and sold out in a matter of minutes. Hell yeah.
Only 1,000 shirts were printed and offered on the H-E-B website, going for $35 each, with 100% of proceeds being donated to Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).
I’m not on TikTok, but apparently Dwyer became pretty well known for a series on the app where he made fake metal shirts for store brands and chains, like Cracker Barrel (people probably hated this MORE than the restaurant’s unmoving logo change. This limited run was the first time a store actually took the concept seriously, but hopefully it won’t be the last.
Dwyer shared this statement:
“I started the ‘metal tee’ series earlier this year as a fun side project. I’ve always loved taking everyday brands and reimagining them as if they were in completely different worlds, like turning grocery stores into metal bands. A lot of my ideas come from scrolling through my comments section or seeing what people are nostalgic about. If a brand has a loyal fan base or strong identity, that’s usually where I start and WOW does H-E-B have a loyal fan base!”
Who’s next?! I don’t know why, but I feel like Burger King would look cool in tree branch font.
