Papercuts and Powerbombs: Linkin Park and CMLL Team Up for a Special Wrestling Event

0

In what might be one of the least expected collaborations in a while, iconic nu metal group Linkin Park will join forces with one of the most iconic Lucha Libre wrestling promotions on the planet to put on a special event tomorrow night.

Set to take place at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow night at Arena Mexico in Mexico City, CMLL will be hosting the ‘Noche From Zero’, a wrestling event that will see a show full of talented wrestlers taking each other on in the squared circle. The full card of bouts was unveiled last week, but the inclusion of Linkin Park in the show was an apparent last-minute wrinkle to the already planned event.

Aside from some unique Linkin Park inspired merch coming out of this event, the show will now also feature a trios match where Team Linkin will battle Team Park. Not sure who will be on those teams or what’s at stake, but it’s certainly a way to justify the collab, I guess.

As for the rest of the matches, you’ll see TJP and Templario try to defend their NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship against Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja. Aside from the other matches, the night’s main event will be Atlantis Jr. and Neón versus Volador Jr. and Hechicero in a tag team bout.

Last time CMLL teamed up with a non-wrestling property to promote an event, they held a Pokemon-themed show. It was wild and available to stream for free.

The whole show will be viewable to anyone that subscribes to the CMLL YouTube channel.

This kind of promotion makes me wonder what a company like WWE or AEW could do with a band-focused event. Maybe a Slayer-themed Hell in a Cell match or a Pallbearer-themed Casket match? There’s plenty of opportunities for some wild shit here. Hey HHH or Tony Khan — hit me up!
