XCOMM Prove the Kids Are Alright with “Fake ID”

0

Ah, youth. As someone whose days of getting carded for booze and shows are far behind him, it’s great to see that kids these days — at least the ones not enslaved by their TikToks and their floss dances or whatever — are still willing to counterfeit government identification to enjoy the finer things in life. At least that’s what I gather from punky crossover Venice Beach outfit XCOMM’s new track “Fake ID”.

Now, you may want to initially write the band off for nepotism because the drummer is Revel Ian, the son of Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, but that would be a mistake. Not only does Ian kick ass on the drums, but these young guys have the piss and vinegar kind of energy to get a circle pit going. They’ve nailed the righteous fury enough to make a sub-three minute song punch above its weight.

Speaking of the track and the music video, which you can check out below, frontman Michael Gatto shared how his own frustrations with getting carded at shows led to the creation of this song.

“‘Fake ID’ rips! It’s about getting rejected from shows for being under 21 when all you want to do is check out a band. The video shoot was amazing — it was so funny to walk around town dressed as grandmas for a day. I thought we looked great and I love how the video concludes with us walking into the ocean…”

This also comes during one of the band’s bigger moments, as they opened for the Foo Fighters yesterday for a sold-out charity concert benefiting Hope The Mission and Los Angeles Mission. Both of those organizations provide shelter, food, and support for unhoused in the greater Los Angeles area.
