Official Billy Idol Doc ‘Billy Idol Should Be Dead’ to Get 2026 Theatrical Release

0

We’ve got another artist documentary added to the watchlist and, we’ll even get to enjoy it in the comfort of a sticky-floored, popcorn-scented movie theater the way the dark lord intended. Billy Idol‘s official documentary, titled Billy Idol Should Be Dead, will be making its theatrical debut in the coming months, though no official date has been set.

The documentary technically came out last year, debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival over the summer. It’s since been acquired by Evan Saxon Productions (ESP), which is why it’ll be hitting theaters at some point soon. Directed by three-time Grammy winner Jonas Åkerlund and produced by Live Nation Studios, Billy Idol Should Be Dead shows his journey from a bratty, snarl-mouthed punk rocker to the icon we know him as today, told through interviews, archival, and animated footage.

Evan Saxon, the obvious namesake behind ESP, commented:

“Billy Idol is a larger-than-life artist who changed the face of pop culture and music history during his 50-year career. From Generation X to now, he’s still selling out arenas around the globe. We are honored to work with Another Planet’s Laurence Freedman and Live Nation to bring the powerful and heartfelt documentary ‘Billy Idol Should Be Dead’ to his fans on the biggest cinema screens worldwide.”

Also featured in the film is an original Idol track written with Academy Award-nominated writer J. Ralph called “Dying To Live,” which is up for “Best Original Song” at the 98th Academy Awards. It’s a prominent part of the doc’s coda sequence, that you can watch a clip of below.
