Ghost Set to Begin Recording New Music Next Month

0

New Ghost music alert!

This first part shouldn’t necessarily be new info to all you hardcore Ghost stans out there, but Tobias Forge is planning to spend the first half of 2020 recording music for what will eventually become the next Ghost album. Huzzah! You’ll likely need to wait until 2021 to hear most of it, because he wants to wait until after the massive cultural distraction that will be the U.S. presidential election, but that’ll be here before you know it.

It’s the next part, gleaned from a recent interview with Kaaos TV, that’s got some new info: before beginning the new album sessions in earnest, Forge will spend a little time in January recording some kind of one-off song, the details of which he hasn’t revealed. Something for a soundtrack? Video game? Standalone single? We shall see. But in any case, recording that song will also serve to ease Forge into the writing and recording mindset, after which he’ll hit it hard, Monday through Friday like a full time job, until the album is completely written and recorded.

Here’s the quote:

“I have been in the studio a couple of days to record a few demos. I started that already in the summer, just to feel that, ‘Okay. I’ve started.’ After New Year’s, I’m gonna go into the studio. First, I’m gonna record one song that’s gonna be part of something that we will know of in the year from now. So that’s the first thing. And that’s basically one singular song for something, and that’s gonna be just to sort of get the rocks off a little. Because that way, you can go into a new studio, maybe — you can try something like that.

“You can try that new amp that you wanted to try, and that’s more like an experiment. So, as soon as I’m done with that in January — that’s gonna be the first or second week in January — after that, I’m just gonna start full time, Monday through Friday, being in the studio writing. And that’s what I do up until May last. And June 1st, I’m gonna be in some other studio with preferrably the drummer that I’ve been using for the last 10 years for most of my recordings, and hopefully then we’re gonna start recording the drums for all these 15 songs — something like that — I’m gonna write. Some of them are written, some of them are in bits and pieces, and some of them I don’t know yet.”

We’ll have to wait and see how it all unfolds, but it sounds like we might get some kind of standalone single towards in spring or summer of 2020, followed by the full album in early 2021 (with marketing hype and single releases possibly before then). Lots to come for Ghost fans. Stay tuned.
