Shadows Fall Drummer Hints at Possible Reunion

0

Shadows Fall will forever be known as the greatest band to come out of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal scene of the early ’00s that didn’t really make it after a very promising start. It sucks that’s their legacy because they put out some phenomenal albums, but stacked up against Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Mastodon, them’s the breaks. I’ve been mentally planning a long-form article on the WHY of that situation for years, because there’s some truly interesting things that went on behind the scenes I uncovered after just a small amount of digging… but that’s for another day.

In any case, I, for one, would be pumped as fuck if Shadows Fall regrouped for a few shows at some point, and if we’re interpreting some vague language from drummer Jason Bittner correctly, that could be in the works, although it might be quite a while before it happens. Speaking to Heavy New York at the NAMM Show last week, Bittner, who is currently playing drums in Overkill, had this to say when asked if there was anything else he’d like to plug:

“There might be some other rumblings with another band when other people have time to do it.”

“Another band,” we’re presuming, is Shadows Fall… unless he’s talking about Toxik or Flotsam and Jetsam, which seems unlikely but not impossible. Same goes for “other people,” presumably Jon Donais, who is perpetually working with Anthrax. He may also be referring to Donais’ axe partner Matt Bachand, who plays in Act of Defiance, but although they’re not nearly as busy as Anthrax. Brian Fair is currently working on Hell Night, but seems to mostly reside on family land these days based on his social media posts. I have no idea what bassist Paul Romanko is up to, although I seem to recall him sitting out some of the band’s last live dates.

In any case, this will certainly be one to keep an eye on, although with Anthrax prepping a new album for hypothetical release in 2020, don’t hold your breath for it happening any time soon.
