With the Ruins will release their sixth full length album, Black Heart, on November 27. The band have been remarkably consistent over the years, but even so, the big question on fans’ minds is how the subtraction of longtime vocalist Tim Goergen and the addition of Steve Tinnon, who has only toured with the band until now, will affect Within the Ruins’ sound. We got a taste of it on the World Undone EP, released in 2018, but with a full-length album comes greater responsibility, ya know?

Big sigh of relief: everything is gravy! Within the Ruins have very much developed a sound over the years — the guitar blips and bloops, weedily-weedilies and lots of hard stops — and that sound is perfectly intact, worry not. Tinnon, for his part, sounds absolutely monstrous here, doing that trademark sound justice. We can’t imagine fans being disappointed.

Fittingly, the band turned to Tinnon himself to offer comment:

“We’re extremely excited to finally start sharing this album with everyone! We’ve been working on it for well over a year and really trying to zero in on what the new version of Within the Ruins was going to sound like, and we’re very proud of the new direction. ‘Deliverance’ is a great representation of the darker, angrier approach we wanted to take and felt it was an appropriate first track to release. We can’t wait to release Black Heart and start this next chapter!”

Black Heart comes out on November 27 via eOne / Good Fight Music; pre-order it here.
