There are days in this line of work that feel better than others. In an age where corporations purchase websites only to gut their staff and extract as much revenue out of the remaining desiccated husk before moving on to the next, it’s hard not to feel like it’s all for nothing. If you’re a nerd like me, you already know I’m pouring one out for Giant Bomb and Polygon. I personally know some people who worked at the latter site and they were all incredible at their job. Now they’re dealing with layoffs and uncertainty because some suit wanted to make a few extra bucks. It’s sad…

Bleed (20 Buck Spin)

Think 90s-early 2000s alt rock/metal. Full of distortion and attitude, this Dallas, Texas-based band is dropping its debut full-length today. If their EP Somebody’s Closer was opening salvo, this is their full-force barrage.

Hate

Bellum Regiis (Metal Blade Records)

Black/death metal reigns on this one. This brutal foursome have stuck around since the mid-90s, delivering epically aggressive music to the masses. Described as an aural representation of “a struggle for power and everything that comes with it,” this one’s stuffed full of atmosphere, depth, and destruction.

Misfire

Product Of The Enviroment (MNRK Heavy)

Thrash metal will never die. I can say that with full confidence because bands like Misfire are still putting out killer new tracks that make me instantly want to jump in the pit. Seriously, listen to this shit and tell me you don’t feel the need to bang your head and chug a beer before starting a big ass circle pit in your den. I’ll wait.

At Peace (Epitaph)

Is this metal? Not really. Does it kick ass and continue to rightfully sound the alarm on the fucked up authoritarian bullshit going on around the world? You bet your ass. Worth listening to if you’re pissed off about everything in the news and feel helpless to fight against it. After you hit play, you’ll want to start a protest and fight back.
