Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil Says He Had a Stroke Last Christmas
We, understandably, give Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil a lot of shit. It’s kind of hard not to, seeing how he’s been performing (or, if we’re being honest, NOT performing) whenever he’s been on stage. That doesn’t mean we don’t want the dude to be okay in every other sense, so some news he just shared about the state of his health has put some things in perspective.
In a new interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Neil revealed that he suffered a stroke last Christmas, which forced the band to postpone their Las Vegas residency. It was originally scheduled for March 28–April 19, 2025 but was pushed to starting this month, with the only explanation at the time being that it involved “a required medical procedure advised by Neil’s doctors.”
Neil, 64, divulged:
“I had a stroke. My whole left side went out… I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough. The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.’
“I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair. I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.
“It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do. You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right.”
Neil is on the up-and-up, partly thanks to all the work he does off the stage. He’s a football coach back in Nashville, Tennessee where he lives, which requires him to be out ripping and running a lot. “It’s been tough, but I’m back,” said Neil. “I’m 90, 95 percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great.”
Mötley Crüe’s Las Vegas residency is now live at Dolby Live at Park MGM having started yesterday, September 12, and runs until October 3. If you had tickets to the original dates they’ll be honored and, if you haven’t gotten any yet, you can purchase some here.
