Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson to Sing National Anthem at Upcoming Hockey Game

Oh, the notoriously maligned celebrity-sang national anthem performance. They’ve been quite the hilarious and storied time in the past, sweeping shit performances across many sports. Iron Maiden‘s Bruce Dickinson won’t fall into this category, because not only has he performed it before, it’s also just entertaining to watch him do it.

Dickinson is set to sing the national anthem this coming Tuesday, October 7 for the Los Angeles Kings versus the Colorado Avalanches hockey game. He’ll be perking up those vocal cords for the 7:30 p.m. game at the Crypto.com Arena (I hate when venues do dumb shit like this, but I get it, money over everything), as it’s the first day of NHL’s (National Hockey League) regular-season play. You can watch the game on ESPN if you feel so inclined.

Yesterday, (Friday, October 3), Dickinson shared a video message with the announcement:

“ Bruce Dickinson here. And guess what — on the 5th [of October], I’m at the Wiltern, in Los Angeles, obviously, [performing with my solo band], and on the 7th [of October], yeah, I’m gonna be banging the drum for the L.A. Kings home opener. And I’m also gonna be singing, I believe, the U.S. national anthem as a Brit. But for now, that’s it. I’ll see you on the 7th. I might even see you at the Wiltern theater.”

Apparently, Dickinson will be involved with the Kings for more than just this national anthem performance. The team has locked down the rights to use Iron Maiden’s “Fear of the Dark” for in-game entertainment for the duration of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Dickinson first sang the anthem last month on September 14 at the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks game at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “I’ll let you in to a secret. So, I’ve got to sing the national anthem in Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Steelers,” he revealed in a recent interview with Elizabeth Zharoff. “They’ve asked me to do this. I’m going to do it a cappella and stuff, and as long as you start at the right place, you’re good to go.”

You’re good to go indeed, Bruce.
