God Forbid Release Mini-Documentary for 20th Anniversary of ‘IV: Constitution of Treason’
There are things you never forget as a Jersey native: your first pork roll, egg, and cheese (with salt, pepper, ketchup of course), your first visit to the Shore, and for metalheads coming of age in the early 2000s — your first God Forbid show. Mine was seeing them open for Anthrax at the Birch Hill weeks before that place closed down. They were a staple in our state and a testament to the fact that Jersey hits hard.
So when God Forbid got back together in 2022 and began doing shows here and there, you know your boy was hyped. Earlier this year, they went on tour and played the entirety of the supremely heavy IV: Constitution of Treason to mark its 20th anniversary. And while that’s sure to make some of us feel old as fuck, the band released an 18-minute mini-documentary about the band as it was back in 2005, how the band is running in 2025, and how their homecoming shows in New Jersey simply hit different all these years later, among other things.
Shot, directed, produced, and edited by filmmaker Chris Aballo, the documentary features new interviews with band members Doc Coyle, Byron Davis, John Outcalt and Corey Pierce, along with backstage footage and unseen photographs. It’s an intimate telling of what’s gone down all these years in the God Forbid camp.
Whether you’re an oldhead that’s been supporting God Forbid for decades now or you’re connecting with the New Wave of American Heavy Metal for the first time, the documentary is a great look into what made one of that period’s heavy hitters so great. Spoilers: it’s the connection they have with their roots and the badass tunes they made along the way.
In addition to the documentary’s release, God Forbid announced that they’d added New England legends Overcast (featuring vocalist Brian Fair of Shadows Fall and bassist Mike D’Antonio of Killswitch Engage) to two of its upcoming Northeast U.S. tour dates with co-headliners Darkest Hour and Bleeding Through. Original supporting act Nora had to drop off the tour due to unforeseen circumstances, hence the lineup change. The shows in question are as follows:
12/12 Silver Spring, MD The Fillmore
12/13 Hampton Beach, NH Wally’s (+ Overcast)
12/14 Brooklyn, NY The Monarch (+ Overcast)
