Sh*t That Comes Out Today: January 9, 2026

0

Heyyyyy. New year, new releases! We were off for a couple weeks at the end of the year and last week was pretty silent in terms of new releases, so here we are. Things are still a little slow, but that’s all gonna change pretty soon. Enjoy the new tunes!

Alter Bridge

Alter Bridge (Napalm Records)

As the hard rock band’s eighth studio album, this one’s got 12 new tracks that sound pretty much as you’d expect from the Myles Kennedy-fronted outfit. This ultimately makes the list only because it’s still the early days of 2026 and we highlight five albums in this feature. Still, if you like radio-friendly rock that features all of the hard rock trappings that make it popular with a mass audience in the first place, have at it — we won’t judge.

Beyond The Black

Break The Silence (Nuclear Blast)

Symphonic metal through and through, this new release is the band’s sixth studio release and serves as a concept album rife with “ethno influences”. According to the band, the album deals with themes of “communication, inner strength, resilience, and the need to reconnect a divided world.”

Iotunn

Waves Over Copenhell (Metal Blade Records)

This Danish/Faroese progressive metal outfit are back, this time with a live EP based on their performance at Copenhell 2023. Thanks to the incredibly clean production and sound quality, this makes for an incredibly captivating live release. We tend to try to avoid live albums on ‘Shit That Comes Out Today’, but this release is impressive from a technical standpoint, if not for the raw and epic performance it conveys.

Stranguliatorius

Flies Don’t Lie (Horror Pain Gore Death Productions)

For their fourth full-length effort, this Lithuanian death metal outfit return with a heaping helping of brutality. Jam packed with sardonic nihilism and an acute sense of misanthropy, this is definitely the release you want to check out if you like your metal grinding, pissed off, and grimy.

The Protomen

Act III: This City Made Us (n/a)

Fans of The Protomen have been waiting for this release for so long, it’s almost impossible to accept that it’s finally here. Their previous album Act II: The Father Of Death came out in 2009, for fuck’s sake. Still, it’s here now and fans can rest easy — this album lives up to the hype. For the uninitiated, The Protomen sound like if Queen and Rush got drunk listening to Devo records, fell into an ’80s cyberpunk dystopia, and decided to write a rock opera about the classic video game series Mega Man. If you enjoy synth-laden epicness that mixes epic 80s power metal with synth rock and a story woven throughout, you’re gonna love it.
