Remember when Metallica was fucking awesome? I do.

METALLICA – “Disposeable Heroes” from Master of Puppets (1986)

Oh yeah, I remember those days quite well. Metallica wasn’t merely awesome, they were a total killing machine, far & away the best band of the era. In concert they were just staggering beyond belief. Such a shame how far they’ve fallen, absolutely tragic. They released their first five albums in a span of only 9 years. Now they need 5 years to put together pieces of garbage like “Load” or “St. Tinnitus”. They’re just a pathetic parody of themselves now & it still makes me cringe to see & hear them like this. Even their “new” logo sucks in comparison to the old one.

I love the part at the end of that song where the bass rocks in with do dah di do do and then they play the cadence. Good times!

Easily one of the most underrated Metallica songs out there. Like the angrier proto-One.

One of their best songs indeed. Just yesterday I was watching a you tube clip of them playing “Whiplash” somewhere in europe yesterday, and it sounded damn good to me. I’m sure the next album is going to be a good, solid release, despite it’s not going to be MOP II.

I prefer “dont tread on me”

I always thought orion was the under-rated song on that album.. much more weed worthy.

Ah, Metallica. How we miss you.

I don’t wanna get all ideological or pro-piracy here, but I think the utter suckage of mid-to-late-era Metallica was caused by their astronomical success. I think the metal world would be better off if their songs had been cheaper and then fans had spent more on albums and concert tickets for other artists.

But then, I’m a pinko commie bastard, and I think Mustaine can out-riff James or Kirk any day of the week.

Still the best opening act I’ve ever seen: Metallica opening for Ozzy circa 1986, right before Cliff died. Never has an arena (San Diego Sports Arena) been so full for a warm up band. All those cheap crosses on stage – awesome. People actually left afterward to skip Ozzy, who was at the time kind of a fat fuck who was going through the motions.

To the first commentor: “St. Tinnitus” – well played! I may steal that.

Fucking killer song. Always one of my tops to thrash to alone in my room baked out of my gourd.

Cheers to Metallica, an awesmoe record. I just met them 2 days ago at their San Diego tour stop….despite what you see and read in the press these guys are down to earth and super cool to their fans…Rob definitely brings an edge to the band that was much needed!
