NEW LAMB OF GOD ALBUM COMING FEB. ‘09, PRODUCED BY… UH… WHO IS THIS DUDE?

Thursday, August 14th, 2008 at 3:23pm by Axl Rosenberg

Just in time for Vince’s birthday on Valentine’s Day (which explains why he’s so darn sexy), Lamb of God will release a new album this February, according to a press release that just arrived here at the MetalSucks Mansion.

The band is working with producer Josh Wilbur (pictured above) this time.

Wait… who the fuck is Josh Wilbur?

The press release says that Wilbur “is well known for his Grammy Award winning work with Steve Earl,” and a quick google search shows that he’s also enigneered for everyone from Avenged Sevenfold to Pink, and that he’s mixed at least one Limp Bizkit album. Meanwhile, Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler goes on to say that the band is “excited change things up this time and work with Josh…There is an aggressive shift in the material and our approach.”

I know a lot of LoG fans were unhappy with the work producer Machine did on the band’s last two albums, particularly Sacrament; personally, I wasn’t one of them. Still, Machine was the first producer LoG had ever worked with more than once, so switching things up a lot clearly works for them. For now, I choose to have total faith in the band… even if Josh Wilbur has worked with Limp Bizkit.

It’s like the Mastodon/Brendan O’Brien thing. They’re probably confident enough in their songs that they can pick any producer they want and know it will turn out well.

  2. TedTedPoleyPoley says:

can’t they (whoever took this picture) find any better pic showing him at work as a producer, you know doing actual work instead of texting his buddies (& possibly talking on AIM):-D

  3. Cipher says:

Yeah, Sacrament was a step down from Ashes of the Wake in my opinion, but only because AotW kicked so much ass. Glad to hear about the more aggressive style, let’s just hope it doesn’t dumb down their music. Can’t wait to hear this one…so many new metal albums in the coming months, but this may be at the top of my list.

  4. Robby says:

Oh my God fucking LAMB OF GOD is BACK!!!!

  5. jesse says:

I loved Ashes of the Wake to the point of the CD not leaving the player in my truck for well over a month. Sacrament, not so much. Yes it was a good album, but it would have been better had it not been preceded by 2 incredibly solid albums.

I’m not too worried about the new producer regardless of who he’s worked with before. Lamb of God make heavy, solid albums, period. Hopefully the new one will be a little more memorable though.

    EAT PUSSY!

  6. amy says:

sacrament was their first awesome album — but production was way too mechanical. i know the guy’s name is machine. but it’s time to move away from the Pantera-informed mega-precise sound. loosen the fuck up.

  7. AmyCanLickMyBalls says:

“Sacrament” was their first awesome album? Are you fucking kidding me? Apparently you’ve never listened to New American Gospel or Ashes of the Wake, retard. Mmm Pussy is good.

  8. If the new producer can return them to their pre-Ashes Of The Wake sound, then I’m all for it.

  9. Fink says:

Am I the only one who really likes As the Palaces Burn? AtPB and New American Gospel are definitely my favorite LoG albums… I prefer the older stuff.

  10. jesse says:

    @Fink

Dude.. you’re not alone. As the Palaces Burn is a burning kitten of an album. I love the way Ruin fades out and explodes into As the Palaces burn. Not to mention 11th Hour. That is easily one of their best songs yet. The production quality was horse shit though. I think that’s why a lot of people can’t get into the album.

  11. The Mighty Fucking Quinn says:

Agreed with Fink.As the Palaces Burn is one of if not my favorite album ever, just because of the fact that while I listening to metal for a few years already, that is when I took the reigns and fully embraced being a “metalhead.”Allow me to bitch a bit by saying if they wanted to repeat work with a producer, it needed to be Devin Fucking Townsend. The man is a geneius, but as of late he is producing all mediocre bands, and it sucks because we have to take that over SYL(R.I.P.)

Either way, this dude will do fine, because Lamb of God write songs that regardless of who produces, they still own.Hopefully Wilbur will go after the rawer sound that was more distinguishable on their first two records.I know Epic is going to pressure them into a corner any chance they get(Laid to Rest, album version versus demo version, opening riff, tell me the demo didn’t kill.Even Morton agreed when I told him they should have never toned that down.)But the bottom line is that what Tim said is right, this band are a master of their craft. They know what they’re doing, so the producer thing isn’t going to be too big a deal.At the end of the day, even after not liking Machine, I think I would be 110% comfortable with anyone producing a new Lamb of God record who’s name isn’t Bob Rock.

  12. Tommy Leebowitz says:

@Ted: Haven’t you seen Serj’s video of Serj interviewing Serj? All producers do is text their buddies and order pizza. Probably a very accurate photograph.

  13. Nothing this band has done sounded better, song-wise and production-wise, than As The Palaces Burn. That album is fucking raw and unstoppable!

By comparison, New American Gospel sounds a bit immature in the song department, and Ashes of the Wake sounds super slick and lacking in genuine aggression.

  14. DamagedMike says:

Yeah, they definitely needed to switch producers, though this guy seems like he was probably more of a big time label decision than a band one given his creds and all.

To me Sacrament was a disappointment so hopefully the channge is a good one.

  15. Rockett says:

Machine is the shit. He did a bang-up job w/ LoG, and also put out great albums by Bloodsimple and Eighteen Visions.

  16. B says:

I love As The Palaces Burn, but I honestly think the production sucks. The songs are top notch, but if you listen to it after some of their newer albums, the production sounds very weak and hollow. In my opinion. Regardless, awesome to hear LoG are still kicking.

  17. CarlosRamirez says:

How Lamb of God got big will always confound me.

  18. Scott says:

    New Lamb Of God…

    I just came.

  19. The Metal Nerd says:

Being almost ten years removed from New American Gosphel, and still keeping it in my regular rotation of CD’s, ill go out on a limb an say that Lamb Of God need to go back to working with Steve Austin. Just hearing his hateful screech alongside Randy on Terror And Hubris In The House Of Frank Pollard, was life changeing.

  20. Scott says:

My good friend Rich and I have a tradition that every time he’s in my car we roll the windows down and blast Laid To Rest and sing along and headband regardless of traffic. To add to the br00tality of that, it’s usually on the way to Taco Bell. Go us.
I loved fucking Ashes most of all, but honestly, LoG is a solid fuckin band. Anything they put out is gonna get eaten up and thoroughly enjoyed, and I can’t wait to partake. Who’s with me?

  21. matt says:

    @Rockett: A great album by Eighteen Visions…?

  22. Scott says:

Oh, I feel ashamed to have misspelled headbang there.

  23. Alex says:

After reading most of the comments (too lazy to read them all), I get a vibe that everyone either likes new LoG or old LoG. With As the Places burn being the teetering point. Am I the only one who thinks that every album is “heaven sent”, as the kids say these days. On a road trip I can go from Burn the Priest to Sacrament back to New American and so on without thinking about it. Yeah the production gets better as the band grows, but that happens to every band. When I first got Sacrament I was like most the people i talk to, and thought it wasn’t that great. But I gave it a few run threws and found out its a truly great album and I’m sure the new one will melt faces too. But that’s my comment, take it how you will.

  24. Patchs says:

Steve Earle!? this should be good.
    haha
i like all of LoG’s stuff. and i love em live. cant wait to get there new album.
hope it comes out on my b-day ( which is in feb )

  25. lung says:

    just saw this.
I thought they “turned down” touring with Metallica.
    turns out – NO.
they will be opening (with The Sword).
for all of Metallica’s December tour dates.
    just FYI.

  26. ERiK says:

Their new producer looks like Carson Daly.

  27. enemyofgod72 says:

Sacrament was very good not great. AotW was LoG and Machine at the pinnacle of both their careers so far. I hope the new album is as aggressive as their old stuff just with better production. Old versus new comparisons, for a band that has been around as long as LoG and has become as poplar as they have, have been an argument for everyone from Ozzy to Metallica. These opinions derive from the difference of when the first time you hear a band is. I was a fan of Metallica from the very beginning and I think everything since Cliff died has been a slow, sad decline. If someone heard Metallica for the first time when St Anger was released your opinion should differ vastly from mine (my first was Ride The Lightning). LoG are not that different from a popularity stand point as Metallica after …And Justice For All came out. After that album they made the decision to try appealing to an even more massive audience and went commercial. Let’s hope LoG do what Metallica did not and use their popularity to steer the public head on into metal instead of swerving out of the way like Metallica did.

  28. Joe says:

Terror and Hubris in the house of Frank Pollard is the best LoG song out to date. Nothing can compare.

  29. Jake says:

Mark did too much soloing on Sacrament, hes good but its not their style. Their guitars didn’t punch as much as palaces burn, american gospel or ashes. Machine tried to make randy sing instead of doing what he does best, scream. Hope they bring out something huge

  30. Robbie says:

Can anybody tell me a really great lamb of god song to listen to? Cos i havent heard much, i wouldnt know where to start. Itd really help. Thanks. Btw, SLAYER AND MACHINE HEAD FUCKING RULE! IN MY OPINION THOUGH, IRON MAIDEN ARE THE GREATEST METAL BAND EVER FORMED!

  31. [...] have heard that Hatebreed have a live DVD, Live Dominance, coming out on September 2 (produced by that Josh Wilbur guy!), and they’re actually doing something pretty cool to promote it: between now and August 25, [...]

  32. King Bitchalot says:

Lamb of God is backFUCK YEAH… how would I like this album to sound like?

…I would like to hear Burn the Priest/New American Gospel (with BtP’s lower guitar key & NAG drop D) music combined with As the Palaces Burn and/or Ashes of the Wake vocals, and AotW’s/Sacrament’s sound quality.

Also….. whos better- who’s more intense? Violent? LOG, or Cannibal Corpse? SUUFFEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! MAKETHEMSUFFERMAKETHEMSUFFERMAKETHEMSUFFERFOREVER..

    They’re both bad ass.

  33. isaak says:

chis was saying today that the album is going to be much heavier then all of the other ones.and hes only got 3 more songs to do til hes done his recording then its on to mark and willie.he played a sample.sounds fucking intence.

  34. robin says:

i loved sacrament, maily because the sound was so clear!!
i would love to hear their old stuff re-recorded!!!
the old stuff is good,no doubt about that, but as said before some of the stuff is really unclear, compaired to sacrament!!!

    all hail Chris adler!!

ps cannibal corpse would be way better if they were either:
    A. Dead
    B.only performing to the deaf
C.sufering for explosive diarea(it would sound alot better than that “cookie monster” vocals)

  35. hatred says:

pfff, Lamb of God are on commercial propaganda tour:(

  36. Twistedfool420 says:

Fuck everyone of you saying “Ashes of the wake” was the best album released. nothing will top it..

BURN THE PRIEST! fuckas! BTP was their ALL TIME BEST album!

cant wait for this new one, gunna fuckan smash shit till than ahaha

  37. Mr Law says:

Ashes of the Wake for me is easily one of the best metal albums of all time. It was as brilliant as The Black Album or And Justice For All or Reign in Blood or Caught Somewhere in Time. But I have heard a few tracks from the new LoG album and to me that is too heavy. The production was already a little compressed.

I want dynamic range, not just technical ability. I think he was a bad choice. This new album will just be a one volume noise blur.
