IN FLAMES GIVE ME A STIFFY (BUT THEIR NEW VIDEO GIVES ME A SEMI)

Even though I’m not such a fan of In Flames’ latest album A Sense of Purpose, I will always love this band to death. The album wasn’t bad by any means, but it definitely falls well below the level of metal the band are capable of making, and ultimately when I’m fixin’ for the kings of Swedish melodeath I’m gonna grab Clayman, Colony or even Come Clarity before I grab this one.

But anyway, the band just released a video for the song “Alias” from that album; like the song itself, the video gets a solid “meh” from me. But like I said, I love this band, and I’ll listen to/watch anything they do. Including going to see them live; for my money they’re one of the best live bands of the past 15 years, hands down. You can bet your ass I’ll be rockin’ out hard fan-boy style when they tour the U.S. with All That Remains, Gojira, and 36 Crazyfists this winter (full list of tour dates after the jump).

Kind of like Metalsucks for me. I love you guys, but your latest effort(s) are a solid meh.

    ;)

Yeah this band is awesome. I did not really like A sense of purpose though =/…But damn are they awesome live i’ll give em that. I highly doubt they will ever make anything closely related to Clayman or Whoracle ever again, but they’re one of the best melodeath bands out there regardless of this new album.

I enjoy In Flames -both new and old- but I’m exponentially more excited about the new Gojira album. They’re so damn heavy, it’s awesome.

  • matt

I’m with you on that one. I’ll listen to anything these guys put out for the rest of their careers.

  • Kye

    I love these guys..so much

And I loved this cd, which is something I haven’t seen a lot of people say.

    December 3rd…can’t wait. :D

Unfortunately, Whoracle was their last good album. Colony was pretty decent, but it’s been downhill ever since.

I’ve actually been really digging A Sense of Purpose in the last week or so.Just happen to have something like half the album stuck in my head, which isn’t a bad thing.Kudos on giving this band the props and not bashing them like many seem to do, as if knocking In Flames was a band waggon of some sort.I’m actually heading out to pick up tickets for the show at Terminal 5 in a few minutes.

Yes I love IF so much, that I’ve actually paid for the subscription to Jesterhead. And not regretting it one bit. IMO the new video is quite awesome, and actually up there in the pantheon of In Flames videos. I’m also getting to see them for the first time even though I’ve been listening to them religiously for over 3 years. And I still have to go over to Germany since they’re not coming to Poland (they were here once, in 2006 and I couldn’t go). And they Gojira in support which is freaking awesome!

That was a boring video, I have to agree, just them standing there performing, not even a pretty backdrop, the normal “random nonsensical imagery” videos you guys post are less boring, at least.

One of the better songs from A Sense of Purpose. Can’t wait til Nov. 7th in Toronto.

I have to disagree with VN slightly on this. I thought A Sense Of Purpose was a great fucking album and Alias was one of my favorite songs on it. I thought the video sucked though. I’m tired of metal videos and any videos that don’t utilize the medium. If I want to see a band play a song I’ll go to a show. Videos are a chance to put an artistic visual twist to a song. Sadly videos are rarely used to do this. Love the song, hate the video. Anyway that’s just my thought.

Definitely disappointed with this album compared to Come Clarity. And this is the song that I always skip if the albums on. Bleh.

This band hasnt put out an awesome album since Whoricle. While I will admit that I do like Colony, you can hear the seeds of shit and it is hard for me to listen to. They fucking sold out and it pisses me off so much (come on, you have to pay for a subscription to there shitty fucking fansite? WTF is that shit?). One of the creators of the Gothenburg sound and they went to total fucking shit. Just like Amorphis (yes I know they werent one of the originals but still, another good example of an amazing band just fucking losing it)
