AT LEAST YOU CAN LEAVE BEFORE DISTURBED GO ON

When it was announced last month that Killswitch Engage would be on Disturbed’s fourth Music as a Weapon tour, we were flooded with so many irate e-mails from readers you’d have thought that Howard Jones had just been caught raping hundreds of metal fans’ mothers; KSE fans just couldn’t seem to wrap their heads around the concept of the American New Wavers acting as support for one of the most love ‘em or loathe ‘em nu metal acts on the planet. We didn’t report on the development at the time, though. Frankly, I figured it was just one of those things; sometimes awesome bands tour with crappy ones. You can’t please all the people all the time.

But now that Chimaira and Lacuna Coil have joined the tour, I gotta ask: what the frick?

I guess I really shouldn’t be too surprised; “real” metal is back “in” these days, as evidenced by the fact that Metallica have traded support acts like Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock for bands like Lamb of God, Machine Head and The Sword. It benefits Disturbed to have bands like these on their tour because bands like these are trendy right now (having just played the Mayhem tour, Disturbed and their handlers may be more aware of this fact than ever), and it benefits KSE, Lacuna Coil and Chimaira to be on the tour because, frankly, Disturbed have a massive audience and it’s a chance to potentially win over lots and lots of new fans.

So, yes, it sucks that if you wanna see the three support acts you’ll have to put money in David Draiman’s pocket. But look at this way: when you leave early, you’ll totally beat the post-show parking lot traffic.

Now, if Disturbed really wanna make headlines, they should invite The Dillinger Escape Plan to be on the tour…

Pretty much everyone hates Disturbed (except for their legions of fans), but I am no fan of Lacuna Coil either. I saw them open for Danzig a couple years ago and they actually started their set off with a note-for-note cover of the Metallica version of Am I Evil. Playing someone’s elses cover of a song as your opener didn’t strike me as a great idea.

  2. Wayne says:

    Meshuggah/Cynic…Haunted/Nachtmystium/Kylesa, Intronaut…..Disturbed/KsE/Lacuna Coil/Chimaira

All line-ups which kick ass, please step forward. Not so fast, Disturbed/KsE/Lacuna Coil/Chimaira!

  3. Senior Swanky says:

Is David Draiman Howie Mandell or is Howie Mandell David Draiman?

  4. Johnny Ringo says:

after being subjected to disturbed’s unique brand of musical torture at mayhem fest i must say that if they put little to no effort into their live show on this tour like they did mayhem it’s going to be really funny when after being beaten to death then revived only to be beaten to death again by chimaira and killswitch disturbed’s fans realize the night can get no better and leave in droves and there’s just a crowd of 20 or 30 rednecks with ill nino shirts on in the audience every night

  5. Metallizer says:

Leaving the labels aside, Disturbed is at least as metal as KSE. As a matter of fact, KSE’s only good song is their cover of Dio’ song, Holy Diver.

  6. dthrasher says:

im glad that all of these bands banded together to form one giant concert of suckiness because this way they wont be off on their own polluting other shows that i would like to see. mtv metal ftl.

  7. RayRay says:

Like I said to axl….Chimaira is smart for accepting this tour. Disturbeds sucks more cock than a pornstar but they have so many shitty gay fans that maybe it will help them sell more records. Otherwise it is a sad day for Chimaira fans because we can only hope their new record will not lean towards the radio way. Fuck draiman and fuck Disturbed. False metal at its finest.

  8. Sammy says:

Yeah, because when you really get to the meat of it, there is no such thing as a “sellout”. KSE and Chimaira could tour with Intronaut and Dillinger to dozens -er, throngs – of fans in urine stained barroom stages, or they could actually make a smart economical move and suck it up and maybe sell a record or two.

Axl, you really hit the nail on the head here. I know metal fans are supposed to be all counter culture and anti capitalist pig and all, but those metal fans are just plain stupid and naive.

(And I may be going out on a limb here, but I’m guessing being a fan of Disturbed, Chimaira and KSE is not as mutually exclusive as those here would have you believe.)

  9. Reaper-X says:

Fuck it…it would be an even huger waste of money. I’d watch Lacuna Coil and then fucking leave. Chimaira got boring as fuck over the years and Killswitch can’t stop writing the same album over and over again.

  10. John says:

I’ll take the urine stained stages/bathrooms any day of the week. Nothing on this tour is worth seeing anyway. Lacuna Coil and Chimaria are transition numetal bands. And Killswitch stopped being good when Jesse left. Then again, I’m a dillinger fan, so what do I know.

  11. d.o.g.o.b.g.y.n. says:

Chimaira had their chance to sell out when they recorded their self-titled disc. If they didn’t do so then, chances are they’re not going to do so period. A band as talented as Chimaira should have loads more exposure and they’ll be getting it with this tour, so good for them.

  12. Carter says:

“Then again, I’m a dillinger fan, so what do I know.” Hahaha. Thats funny

  13. dthrasher says:

I think the tribal tattoo at the top about sums up the whole show

  14. Kye says:

Well…I would say I’d be right there in skipping Disturbed…then I saw them at Mayhem and was pleasantly surprised.

Not the best band ever or anything, but I thought they put on a good enough show to warrant me staying the whole time.

  15. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

Tribal tattoo? Those are the letters M and W

  16. niggaplease says:

Or you could just not go since all of these bands suck.

  17. Elpants says:

Should read: “At least you can leave after Chimaira opens.”

  18. Kyle says:

Killswitch just aren’t what they used to be. Alive or Just breathing is one of the best records I have ever heard, but I saw them last year in Atlanta and it was fucking pretty weak. Not to mention that As Daylight Dies just flat out-sucks. Definitely not worth buying a ticket for a Disturbed show to see them. Though I am very curious to hear what Jesse & Adam’s new project will sound like.

  19. The Mighty Fucking Quinn says:

    @ RayRay.

If you are a Chimaira fan, check out The Dehumanizing Process.I knwo people and opinions change, but I doubt a Chimaira with Rob Arnold will ever right songs for the radio.

On a tour like this Chimaira have probably the most to gain.Metal is metal, and Disturbed fans at the end of the day like metal, even if it’s mediocre or sub-par by most standards. And the smartest thing to do in an economy and state of music such as this is to go out and open for a band that is going to put 10,000 in an arena and sells a million records because you won’t win all 10,000 of em(hell most of em won’t show til later), but of the few thousand that are there early, you will win a few hundred over. And that ain’t bad at all.

  20. DemonicLemming says:

Meh, I’m not too big into Disturbed’s music, but I will say when I was at Ozzfest (eh, ‘06 maybe, somewhere in PA) that their set was the best of the main-stage acts that night. They played their big songs – unlike Hatebreed – didn’t spend half the time just talking – like Lacuna Coil – didn’t suck goat ass – like Dragonforce – and didn’t ramble on about anti-Bush/anti-war bullshit, have a half-drunk lead singer who stumbled off the stage multiple times in the middle of songs, and played unintelligible shit – like SOAD. Disturbed actually put on a hell of a show and got the crowd really into it.

I sure as hell wouldn’t go to see Disturbed – I’d primarily go to see Chimaira, which is a band that rapes the mothers and sisters of all the above-posting haters, because it’s such a good band, and Lacuna Coil, although honestly LC doesn’t have shit against true female-fronted power-metal bands like Nightwish and Epica, but they’re tolerable, and KSE would be a sort of “never seen them before” deal. But, I would stay to watch Disturbed, just to see if the show they put on this time is as good as the last one I saw.

Not too much hope that the shithole that is the American Midwest will ever get a truly good tour…I’ve seen Nightwish once out here and that was it. East Coast ftmfw.

  21. Malacoda says:

Chimaira and KSE – seen it already. dont like the others.

    Sponsored by sprint? WTF?

  22. tyler09 says:

afew years back the tour came to my hometown. The whore in flyleaf was like “guys, stop moshing someone will get hurt, and moshing is dumb” the whole crowd booed that bitch like crazy and then she went a pms on us. funny as hell. seems like a good show this year though.

  23. Mike Malice says:

All these people who are hating on this tour probably bought both the new Metallica AND Guns ‘N Roses albums, so I don’t feel so bad for being psyched.

  24. RayRay says:

Mighty quinn- Dude I am a diehard Chimaira fan. I just hate Disturbed more than anything so when I see a talented sick band like Chimaira touring with them it makes me a little upset….but like I said they deserve to sell more records and be as big as possible so good for them. Ill get over it. I will go to this show if its close and boo Disturbed like I did for their whole set at the Mayhem fest.

John- You have lost your mind. Chimaira is a “transition nu-metal band”. GOOD ONE. Go listen to your non metal Dillinger cd’s and shut the fuck up.

  25. Anthony says:

Whatever, I like all the bands announced.

  26. Anthony says:

Oh, and the reason Metallica traded in support acts like Korn is because umm….Korn is big enough to headline their own tours?

  27. enemyofgod72 says:

I’d like to see Chimaira but not enought to suffer thru KsE, Disturbed and Lacuna Coil who all pretty much suck monkey balls.

  28. Johnny Death says:

It’s punny that you all seem very disturbed about these bands joining this tour.

  29. cink says:

    Going for Killswitch and Chimaira.

  30. Thisnamesucks says:

I might see just for Killswitch.

  31. lern2swim says:

Or maybe it’s just that, unlike you glorified internet fanboy nerds, they can look beyond bitching and moaning about a particular act doesn’t fit nicely into the particular subgenre that’s cool at the current moment

You’re all as bad as the shit eating little twats who love American Idol. All you care about is looking more metal than the next guy. You don’t really give a shit about good music or bad music. You just want to make yourselves feel better about your pathetic, meaningless little lives by pretending to like better music than other people. So, you go to internet forums and bitch and moan about shit like this. Wow!!! You’re all so awesome and brootalz and have such outstanding musical taste because you can talk shit about bands that you say you don’t like. Chances are pretty good that you only like the bands you do because you want to present yourself in a certain way. If you were the popular kid in high school, you’d be listening to Doughtry

You’re not metal. You’re nothing but scene hopping, wannabe, ignorant, whiny, little bitches obsessed with shit that doesn’t matter. Grow up.

  32. Sammy says:

Damn! I think I just learned to swim!!

  33. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

    Is “Doughtry” a Pillsbury spokesman?

  34. Self-Titled says:

?!?!?!?!?!?! Chimaira is the fuckin shit, Disturbed is the fuckin shit. KSE meh, whateva. hahahah and Fuck Lacuna coil. Iv seen all these bands cept Lacuna thank god. And they all have sick shows. ONly got a boner from KSe cuz they played holy diveer

  35. lern2swim says:

    \m/Eluveitie\m/…

Hahaha, lucky for me, I think you have more to live down by knowing that was spelled wrong than I do for spelling it wrong.

  36. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

Just keeping things poppin’ fresh, hoo hoo!

  37. Revrant says:

How did I miss this disaster of a post? Must have been when I was on hiatus, anyhow, I guess I was late in sending the email a while back there.

I love how incredibly fucking ignorant MetalSucks looks “nu metal acts on the planet”, where are you? 2000? Last I checked it was the consensus they had moved on since The Sickness, perhaps you should too, or do you still call Pantera fucking glam metal?

This one is coming right through town, which rarely happens with metal tours, and it’s a festival, so maybe I’ll drag my cousin along and we can suffer through Lacuna Coil’s second album picks(Really, what the fuck was that second album? “Korn Kovers”?) and enjoy the rest.

RESPONSE: Korn headlining their own tour? Not since Head and Dave Silveria left. They suck so bad now its hard to listen to them. Killswitch is f’n great though. I don’t know what you idiots are talking about? I bet you guys hate Lamb of GOd, All That Remains, and Trivium too!? What the hell are you on this page for anyway if your taste sucks!?
