SOME WANKER FUTZING AROUND ON AN 11-STRING BASS

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 at 9:57am by

Contrary to popular belief, I actually thought the video of M.A.N. guitarist Robert “Rob Guz” Gustafsson showing off his sick skillz on an 11-string guitar was pretty cool. Ditto for this video featuring Viraemia bass player “Scott” (no last name given) noodling around on his gargantuan 11-string bass, sent in by MS Maniac “Slender.” Odds are that this video will receive way more praise and way less derision than the aforementioned Rob Guz video, if only because Viraemia’s metal sub-genre is way more in favor with the scene kids who populate this site’s comment sections these days.

11 string guitars are for the same people that drive hummers and drink super big gulps

  • Fritz!

    CRAP!

  • gnarlk

i’ll pass on the riff salad thank you very much…

I’m pretty sure that takes talent. I’m pretty sure I could quit my job, quit snowboarding (and every other hobby) and practice 10 hours a day and not be able to play that bass that way. I’m also convinced that doesn’t make that “music” any good. Fast doesn’t = good.

And Vince, who you callin’ a “scene kid”? Huh?

  • You master

This is the gayest shit ever. Play a real song. Fuck tech!

  • KilledByDeath

I prefered the other vid for 2 reasons
    1. thsi guy is just wankering around its nto particularly tuneful or musical – although i cannot dispute the high level of skill shown to be fair – IMO true solos have feeling this guy just goes thru the motions (albeit very fast)
    2. its crap death metal, i’m a kid but not a death metal scene kid i like my log and trivium, music that has passion

Damn, it has to be a huge pain in the ass to string and tune this monstrosity.

  • Gravy

This dude is awesome! He built this bass himself

  • pokesmot

    nicee techy shit rules

  • Axolotl

I never thought I would say this, but apparently there is such a thing as TOO technical. Awesome display of technique, but really why write songs just for the sake of playing faster and more complex shit than everyone else? It is a novelty, but when another band that plays circles around this one comes around and sounds almost the same there is no point anymore. Actually this might be that band.

  • TITAN

    How incredibly lame.

  • Magical_Salamander11

    That’s completely unnecessary.

  • too_old

it is a Warr Guitar, the same instrument Trey Gunn brought to the public attention in 1994 with King Crimson .. only difference is Trey knows how to play it

  • wallsinsteadofbridges

I discovered that band a few months before, they’re technical as fuck but I think they still have got song structure and heavy songs.
Anyone who likes technical death metal should check em out.
I play bass myself and I don’t think that I will ever be able to play like that, that guy obviously rules. I don’t get it why you guys talk shit about him.

Because they can’t do it, that’s why.

  • moo cow

Its because people are bored and they obviously feel better about themselves when they bash someone else, its the whole bully idea. The bully picks on the small kid to make himself feel better. I personally know him, and no one knows how long it took him to get to that level. Regardless if you like that style of music or not, there is talent there. Its just that regular people will never like it because it goes against every mold society has made for music.

I know the guys in Viraema and my band plays with there bands.
Right now our Arizona local scene went down the hole a year or two ago.
Now, its hard to even get amazing bands up and out like Viraemia.
There live shows are brutal and extreme to the max!
You’ll have to check them out for yourself.
