animals as leadersWhen we introduced you to Sikth, you thanked us. When we introduced you to Textures, you thanked us again.

So, when we say you absolutely need to hear something… you fucking need to hear it. And why not: it’s free!

LISTEN TO ANIMALS AS LEADERS!!!

The fine folks at the unfuckwithable metal label Prosthetic Records have hooked us up with a free track for you from the brand new Animals as Leaders album, out next Tuesday. This is intricate instru-metal of the highest caliber for the kind of metal fan who’s more concerned with musicianship, arrangement and composition than with “being fucking br00tal dudez!!” (though it certainly is heavy). It’s the brainchild of guitar wunkerkind Tosin Abasi, who is pretty much the Trent Reznor of this micro-genre of metal in that the band is basically just his project. Stream and download below. Enjoy.

  2. Pacey says:

aboso-lutely fantastic, i was chatting to a mate last night about how good decent electronica and slayer would sound together
    and it happened
    techno metal worth a listen
    I LOVES IT
    thx

  3. vitruvianApe says:

yes, yes, yes, I had been wondering what that guy was up to. I absolutely loved reflux before they got that awful new lead singer and then split up. Tosin was the real magic that made reflux awesome. And this too is awesome!!
    thanks!!

  4. Rohit says:

    O drumkit from hell

  5. Neil says:

Was wondering when you guys would catch on to this shit.

    I’ve heard this album

this is the weakest track. :P

  6. anathema says:

    fucking sick

  7. uLy says:

Not a fan of processed metal. If you want really good hardcore metal/industrial crazy type shit go listen to Skinny Puppy, not this.

  8. SonOF says:

Wow, this stuff is awesome. Being a fan of IDM, industrial and noisy electronic stuff like Squarepusher, Autechre, Shpongle in addition to metal, this band definitely does it for me.

    Nice recommendation.

  9. Patrick says:

    This song is awesome.
This will be the first instrumental CD that I will have ever bought.

Sometimes metal vocalists can make the band bad and this is awesome music that I have to support.

  10. Matt says:

This is awesome. Medley of influences, all done well. Gonna have to buy this one.

  11. Anthony says:

Yet another awesome recommendation from the Metalsucks Mansion. Guys, you r00l.

  12. Neil says:

this album is going to be a no brainer purchase for me. like i said, i ‘ve heard it, and its gonna change the way metal is played. Many of you feel that this is merely electronic/industrial tech. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. All I can say is that none of you are prepared for what is next

  13. Sandwiches says:

This cd is fucking boner jams. Love it

  14. Jay says:

    Excellent tune guys, this rips!

  15. William says:

Yeah this cd is going to rock…

Also, little known fact, Bulb (aka Misha Mansoor) helped out with this (guitars and drums i believe).

Two great musicians working together is always a good thing!

  16. FistedSister says:

I guess this stuff is cool. This is super old news if you’ve been paying attention to this style of music for a while.

Djent music will wear out it’s welcome just as quickly as deathcore did.

Ez Drummer + Drumkit From Hell is a cool thing for us musicians looking to get drums sounding good when we write, but it’s not cool when bands are using them to replace drummers.

  17. Saul says:

    this is fucking mindblowing

  18. groverXIII says:

I have this album queued up in Foobar behind a bunch of other stuff… sounds like I may have to move it up.

  19. @fistedsister
fuck you and fuck being cool. use tools that would get the job done. hiring a drummer and booking studio time is not cheap, dammit. what’s wrong with having an option? he can always get a drummer for live stuff if he wants to.

  20. groverXIII says:

OK, listened to the album, and it’s phenomenal. Great stuff.

  21. Byron W. says:

    I’m sold.
    Good call!

  22. metalstinks says:

misha mansoor has another project called periphery that is similar in a way…i like them a little better then aal

    • i lost interest in periphery when
      1) casey fired the whole band (j/k, he quit)
      2) bulb stole tosin’s drummer

i don’t like their current vocalist. bland cleans and randy blythe-ish screams doesn’t do it for me. his lyrics doesn’t impress me also.

  23. Jay-P says:

This is a great album throughout. Some really inventive passages. Shame periphery had to go spoil their good music with pussies yelping over the top.

  24. Uglymicrowave says:

this shit needs clean vocals kinda like textures style…with some screaming as well…I still think it rocks, but id love to see what it sounds like with vocals…i know tosin as been asking for vocalists fulltime for this project lets see what he has in mind…

  25. Architect says:

I can say one fucking thing, this band is complete, even without the vocals. All the instruments talks for themselves, and this is pure form of music art to me. Music that don’t need vocal chords to say something, is real music, and better when is metal.

    Greetz from Brazil.
