THE RESISTANCE TO MUSE IS FUTILE

\M/etal? Probably not. Awesome? Absolutely. Muse are one of those bands that appeal to metalheads who lean toward the proggier, more experimental side of the spectrum, and one of those bands who absolutely repulse the tr00er than tr00. To the latter: ya’ll are missin’ out. Muse are making some seriously great tunes that anyone with an appreciation for complex music — and really, isn’t that why all of us metalheads are here? — should know how to appreciate.
So, Muse are finally following up their jizztastic 2006 masterpiece Black Holes & Revelations with a new album, The Resistance, set to be released on September 14th (in the U.K., we presume). Early reports suggest a more ambitious, progressive bent than the last album, with guitarist/singer Matt Bellamy going on record as saying there would be a symphony (which the tracklisting confirms). Get ready for awesome.
The complete album tracklisting, after the jump.
1. “Uprising”
2. “Resistance”
3. “Undisclosed Desires”
4. “United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)”
5. “Guiding Light”
6. “Unnatural Selection”
7. “MK Ultra”
8. “I Belong to You (+Mon Cœur S’ouvre à ta Voix)”
9. “Exogenesis: Symphony Part I (Overture)”
10. “Exogenesis: Symphony Part II (Cross Pollination)”
11. “Exogenesis: Symphony Part III (Redemption)”

Jizztastic indeed!
MK ultra, wasn’t that a Mortal Kombat title?
Don’t know much about Mortal Kombat, but more pertinently, it was the code name for the formerly uber-secret (but no longer) CIA chemical mind control experiments of yesteryear. Interesting (and terrifying) reading, if you’re up for some research.
At any rate, this news just made my day and having brought it to me redeemed MS for punking my gullible ass yesterday. (Got me good, fuckers.)
wikipedia here I come
Thanks for the tip
One of the best bands around today, if not ever!! They’re show at MSG a couple years ago was EPIC! Fukin’ Riff-tastic!!
They are probably one of the best Brittish rock bands around and there pretty impressive live too.
My ex used to listen to this steaming pile. Ugh.
Gotta love the Muse, but I really hope they do go back to a more progressive style. Their new album was a little too “poppy” in my opinion. I still listen to it a ton, but definitely not their best work.
I wonder if ‘Unnatural Selection’ is Muse’s take on ‘A Selection Unnatural’ (streaming on revolver right now) by The Black Dahlia Murder. Even the albums the two songs appear on are set for the same release date. Maybe a hidden alliance exists between the bands. Co-Headlining tour anyone?
I noticed the similar songs titles as well. Pretty awesome conspiracy theory you have here.
I think they’re talented and all, but still overrated. Especially Bellamy.
“Overrated?”
At best I would say “rated.” He doesn’t get near as much attention as he deserves. He can play the pants off most guitarists out there right now. AND write a better song.
Overrated? Yeah, maybe. Almost everyone I know likes Muse. Their raving about the band gets to me sometimes.
Bellamy is an awesome songwriter and all the dudes in that band are great musicians but i just can’t take the whiny falsetto.
my instrumental copy of absolution gets a lot of spins though.
this band channels Radiohead really, really hard. I like ‘em.
Hell yeah can’t wait. I also read an interview last year with the singer that there is some pretty heavy stuff on it.
I don’t want to sound like a closed minded purist or anything, but Muse…. Come on! I’m in to all kinds of music and to me muse is just a pile of old clishès piled on top of each other in audio format. CRAP! Just can’t stand it… My point being? It’s a matter of individual taste, and i am no way missing out on anything.
just a pile of old clishès [sic] piled on top of each other in audio format
What band isn’t?
(For the record, I completely disagree. I’m just taking issue with your implication that “original” music even exists anymore.)
hell yeah. fucking muse is great. unbelieveable energy live.
I still give Muse a big ol Meh. They’ve just never really caught my attention.
lol Hells yeah. Love these dudes.
I’ve said this before.
All you nay-sayers need to go to YouTube right now and check out Muse’s “Dead Star.”
Metal.
As.
Fuck.
…makes most of the bands that get called “metal” around here look like Britney Spears. Early Britney Spears.
You’re welcome.
Muse are amazing. Besides Maiden they’re easily the best live band on the planet.
It’s mind-blowing that three people can make that much music.
I agree – the two best gigs I’ve been to have been Iron Maiden and Muse
Yay, great to see one of the best english bands here in MS. I think they’re maybe the “most metal” alternative band from UK, hehe.
Can’t wait. One of the only bands I listen to outside of the metal genre, and one of my favorite bands in general. Great songwriters and musicians. That three part symphony should be awesome.
FUCK YEAH SO EXCITED
Sick live show!!!
Definitely a very talented band. Stockholm Syndrome pretty much shreds.
You can be into metal and still like these guys. It’s okay.
Whomever posted the link to their Dead Star video has it right. I would also direct you to their song ‘Citizen Erased’ from Origin of Symmetry.
Dude, ‘Origin of Symmetry’ is simply one of the most brilliant epic rock albums of all time.
Muse is a band that even elitist nothing-but-METAL douchebags should learn to appreciate. Their songs are awesome and Radiohead WISHES that they were as epic as Muse.
For me, the French horror masterpiece HAUTE TENSION was my introduction to Muse, as it used their sublime anthem ‘New Born’ in that film. And since then I have been in absolute AWE of Muse, and in particular Matthew Bellamy’s talent.
He plays guitar like Hendrix, piano like Rachmaninov and sings like Jeff Buckley.
Muse are easily ijn the top three greatest musical entities on the planet. With Iron Maiden and Devin Townsend.
New single, Uprising, is up on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/muse. Very epic like Knights of Cydonia, but sounds nothing like Knights of Cydonia. Great song.
