Ozzy Osbourne Takes Home Grammys in Rock and Metal Categories

After garnering himself four Grammy nominations, the “Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne took home the Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album awards, further cementing that metal is just louder rock in the Grammy committee’s eyes.

In the Best Metal Performance category, Ozzy won for his ode to masturbation “Degradation Rules,” meaning Tony Iommi was also an award recipient, which is pretty cool. He edged out Ghost, Megadeth, Muse, and Turnstile in that category. As for his win for Best Rock Album, naturally he won for Patient Number 9, where he beat Bryan Adams, Beck, The Black Keys, Brandi Carlile, Idles, and Turnstile.

Ozzy was also nominated in the other two rock categories, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance, but was edged out by Brandi Carlile in both for her song “Broken Horses.”

All of this, of course, took place less than a week after Ozzy was forced to cancel his UK/European tour slated for later this year and announce that he was retiring from touring. At the time, he said he was physically unable to withstand the rigors of touring, admitting that he never “imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.”
