NEW SLAYER!!!

Monday, September 28th, 2009 at 11:30am by Vince Neilstein

World Painted BloodSlayer have the title track of their new album World Painted Blood up for streaming on their MySpace page.

Conclusion: it sounds like Slayer.

EXCEPT: the guitar solo. Lots of folks slag Kerry King for his one-solo-fits-all style of shred… and really, I can’t say that they’re wrong. Until now. This solo is not only different from King’s usual fare, but it’s slooooowwwwww. This solo probably has as many notes in the entire thing as most of King’s solos do in one phrase. And for that it’s seriously fucking awesome! Hanneman’s riffing and Lombardo’s drumming underneath lock in for a groove that compliments it perfectly, emphasizing the nuance of King’s solo all the more.

World Painted Blood drops November 3rd.

  1. Better than the last two new songs but not as good as Christ Illusion

  2. Cade says:

I dont understand the hype for these guy’s I think they blow baby nuts.

    • Dude, their second through fifth albums were the shit and Christ Illusion was a great comeback

      • second through fifth? so Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven, Seasons In The Abyss, Divine Intervention and Undisputed Attitude were shit?

Someone doesn’t know there was a Slayer before RiB, they released Show No Mercy, Haunting The Chapel, Live Undead and Hell Awaits before RiB

        • zhitnik says:

So according to the back catalogue that you just mentioned, wouldn’t the second through fifth albums be Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss? Sounds a bit more logical…

          • no because Haunting The Chapel is an EP and Live Undead is a live album so as far as studio albums go my statement is correct
however yes i will admit i misread “the shit” as “shit” and for that i accept i was wrong

        • syclonus says:

If you read it properly, he said “the” shit, not just “shit”.

  3. steven says:

    slayer rocks. end of discussion.

  4. Nate says:

Yaaay.. Slayer still manages to remain inconsequential in the “anything-heavier-than-post-hardcore” scene! Good job guys, I’ll listen to your first couple of records and miss the fact that you can no longer be like that!

  5. David Hulsey says:

Kerry King’s slow solos are actually worse than his fast ones. Other than that the song pretty much kicks ass.

  6. hikizume says:

It’s the tempo of the song. It’s in an awkward place between their usual “fast” and “slow”

I like psycopathy red much much more

    it’s a good record though

    spread a little hate worldwide!

  7. Rik Powell says:

Decent song, but the production on this album is absolutely dire. All these new tracks sound like shitty demos.

  8. You Suck says:

“9 out of 10 kids who kill love Slayer”

  9. uLy says:

I like it. Def better than the last two songs.

  10. Patton says:

The solo’s boring, the song is pure fucking blood soaked quality.

  11. Elpants says:

I’m quite surprised. Normally I can’t stand Slayer due to the vocals, but this is at least listenable.

  12. Robert says:

90 seconds too long. This is a band that needs an editor.

  13. Fufkin says:

Looks like I’m on my own in the grouch suite then.

Sounds like a halfway house for the wrong reasons. Neither meathead fast nor slower with the strong melodies of a Mandatory Suicide or Dead Skin Mask. Why can’t they write songs like that anymore?

As mentioned before the production is risible – how anyone can say that sounds good is beyond me. What on earth is going on? The guitars sound like buzzsaws in a tin can. Risible.

  14. Devon Czekaj says:

Best song off the new album I’ve heard so far. I like it more than Psycopathy Red.

  15. DP says:

Am I the only person who thinks “World Painted Blood” is the most generic, stupid fucking name for an album? It’s like they aren’t even trying anymore. Now, I love (old) Slayer as much as the next guy, but seriously? World Painted Blood does not even make sense! World Painted WITH Blood maybe, but even that sounds hokey and shitty.

Divine Intervention, Haunting the Chapel, Seasons In the Abyss, etc…. all great titles. Im sorry… but after hearing the title of this album I had NO interest in hearing it.

  16. Not an entirely new solo-formula. It still follows: “high-pitched-screaming-sound” –> “the grumbling sound of Satans guts” –> “some more screaming”.
The only difference I hear is the tempo. It’s not in any way as frantic as their solos tend to be.

Still, I cannot start to comprehend the amount of asskickness this album is going to deliver! SSSLLLAAAYYEEERRGHGHGHH!!!

  17. No Name No Slogan says:

This song kicks ass just like the last two tracks they released off World Painted Blood. Not sure why there’s so much hate on here for Slayer, guess the metalcore r-tards don’t like thrash. Thrash on Slayer, thrash on.

    • metalguy says:

people dont like how almost every song sounds the same. i hate genre-judging assholes

      • No Name No Slogan says:

more like YOU don’t like how every song supposedly sounds the same, since when are you the voice of the “people”

        • Fufkin says:

‘r-tards’ – what a moronic sweeping statement. And nonsense. Some people, crazy cats like me, might just believe that there are good, bad and average Slayer songs – plus everything in between. It’s almost an insult to the band to say everything they do is just Slayer. Almost. Doesn’t make them an enemy of metal. Hell forbid.

          • No Name No Slogan says:

My point is that people comment on this site, whatever the genre, to hate on bands for hate’s sake. Not to give an honest critique of a song or album, especially when it comes to big names like Slayer.

  18. Kuranes says:

I don’t think that these guys have bought a new guitar amp since their first album.

  19. SP420 says:

I’m so sick of this downtuned garbage they’re putting out. And Kerry’s solo sucks. It’s sounds like he just learned about the whammy bar and is all excited about using it.

  20. bearwizard says:

This is by far the worst song off the new album I’ve heard, those gallop riffs sound flat and boring as fuck, and that solo really does sound terrible, I’ve heard better solos on Ukrainian NSBM records. Psychopathy Red was fucking sweet, I hope the rest of the album doesn’t feel as choked as this track. I really, really hope that this album is better than the new Megadeth or else Kerry King should just stop shit talking.

  21. NoCowNoFood says:

no comments once the leak is out well talk and kick our asses? who lives in NYC? I want to start a fight club whos in? or in Dominicam Republic?

  22. Kevin says:

    BORINGG
There is no kick in the song…
It’s too slow, too repetitive, and that solo is horrible for King standards
And after the solo it just goes downhill, that talky part is stupid on top of that the production sucks.
    Psychopathy Red was soo good…….

  23. Wyzt says:

Haha, hooooly shit. This song is so bad. I literally laughed out loud when the chorus kicked in. Hoooooly shit.

  24. loganarchy says:

Guess I’m the lone one here, but I LOVE the song. The solo isn’t anything special, but the riff is kick-ass. It’s different. I like it.

  25. Cade says:

    slayer blows, end of discussion.

  26. Blake says:

Whoa, I can hear Tom’s bass for once.

  27. ERiK says:

Kerry’s solo on the new song reminds me to the intro solo to Ghosts of War from South of Heaven.

  28. ERiK says:

    to ….. of ….. whatever.

  29. Lars says:

All the songs released so far from WPB rocks!! why over analyse all the time.. those new songs made me feel good and got me the slayer vibe i love so much, although the production on christ illusion sounds much better than what wevè heard so far.. so lets hope its a rough mix..

Slayer is the best extreme metal band as far as i`m conserned..(must be the big punk influence in their music)
