RODRIGO Y GABRIELA Y TRUJILLO

Monday, October 19th, 2009 at 4:30pm by Axl Rosenberg

We haven’t done much writing about Rodrigo y Gabriella, the acoustic guitarist duo sweeping the metal world. But Metal Insider just posted this video of them jamming with Metallica’s Rob Trujillo, so, y’know. That seems maybe worth posting. I dunno. It’s kind of a slow news day.

So here they are doing “Orion”…

…and you can watch more video at Metal Insider.

Having just really discovered Rodrigo y Gabriela within the last month or so, I have to say, they’ve truly blown my mind. ‘11:11′ is going to be on my top 10 list for this year, easily, and their old stuff is great as well. This was a pretty awesome video, Trujillo crab-crouch and all.

Yeah, they are awesome. What’s your favorite song from them? I truly think they’re understated, and Gabriela is the better player, imo.

  5. Rusty Slackjaw says:

    shit sucks

  6. Sammy says:

I first heard about them three years ago and picked up their first album when it came out. They are as metal as acoustic musicians can be.

Sweeping the metal world? Hello, they have been around for years. Could you sound less enthusiastic about the most awesome thing you guys have posted all day? Maybe if your big Jew nose wasn’t up Fred Durst’s ass all the time you could see how awesome this is.

  8. RedRocket says:

Rodrigo and Gabriela seems to be the most successful mexicans musicans in the last years, good for them. Trujillo i don´t know if he count, he´s “pocho”

  17. A few things about this: I love “Orion.” I actually gave a speech at UT in my Business of Speaking course back in 1986 with this song as my backgrond music. My subject, of course, was how Metallica was set to become the biggest band in the world. I got a “B.” My classmates hated it.

When I interviewed Alex Skolnick of Testament 1 1/2 years ago for MetalSucks, he could not stop talking about R ‘n G. Sure enough, he appears on their album.

Robert Trujillo seems like a really, really cool guy, but I have to admit that I am bummed I never got to see Cliff Burton perform this song even though I saw him with Metallica nearly a dozen times.

Finally, I really dig how the acoustic guitars bring out the Mexican flavor/flamenco aspect of the song. Fuckin’ rocks!

  18. fantasyh says:

I was amazed that he pulled off the solo, wah included

    • R. Joseph Smith says:

Amazed? Why? Please elaborate? Trujillo is one of the BEST metal bassists out there today. I only wish he wasn’t wasting his talent with that Metallica group or whatever that band’s called.

  19. dudeiknowmetal says:

    this song is so beautiful………

  20. phale says:

headline should read ‘robert trujillo becomes the second metallica bassist to join a superior band’
