TRIPTYKON WILL WAX THAT ASS

triptykon

It’s been well over a year since Thomas Gabriel Fischer announced he was leaving Celtic Frost and starting a new band, Triptykon, and there’s still no friggin’ album. And I fucking hated the first song the band released, “Crucifixus,” which was basically several minutes of droning seemingly designed to punish anyone hoping Triptykon might make actual music.

But now Mr. Fischer has bounced back with not one but two, count ‘em two, new Triptykon songs – “Abyss Within My Soul” and “A Thousand Lies.” And they totally redeem Tom G. Warrior for the awfulness that was “Crucifixus.”

These songs – which score right off the bat by being actual, y’know, songs – make good on Fischer’s promise that “Triptykon will sound as close to Celtic Frost as is humanly possible” and “will feature all the material I envisioned for the successor to [Celtic Frost's] Monotheist.” These tracks strikes me as very Monotheistical, and that can only be a good thing. Unless you’re a dick. Or deaf. In which case I apologize for calling you a dick. And wonder what you’re doing reading this site.

But I digress! Still no word on a release date for Triptykon’s debut, but hopefully we’ll get it sometime in 2010. In the meantime, check out the new shit here.

… Is it just me or does it seem kinda pointless to leave a band and start a new one whose ENTIRE purpose is to sound as much like the original band as possible? Is it just that the other members of Celtic Frost were moving in a direction this guy didn’t like, or what? I honestly don’t know much about them, so I couldn’t be the judge of that, but… I dunno. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Well, trying to explain the entire situation is pretty difficult due to all of the parts to it, but basically Tom and the drummer had a falling out and the only way Celtic Frost would be around is is both Tom and the bass player of Celtic Frost, Martin Ain, were both in the band. So in that sense, it does make some sense to have Tom continue in the direction of Celtic Frost.

As for Triptykon, I didn’t think it was possible but this may out-heavy Monotheist.

      • Sacajawea

You’re explanation was a bit better, and apparently faster.

        • Bill

Well there is more to it than just that, at least it seems as much from everything Tom has said about it. But I think that pretty much covers all the basics of it.

it wasn’t Tom and the drummer that had the falling out.

        • Trux

I always thought it was Tom and Martin Ain who had the falling out…

Not that I care about Celtic Frost nor Triptykon….

    • Sacajawea

I believe the band members were just not getting along on a personal level.

While this does sound like CF, it’s missing something…

    • Mike2

You know, maybe Tom had problems with his bandmates, but still wanted to make music under the Celtic Frost name. For legal reasons, he probably couldn’t, and started a new band to play his music…

      • brian roach

I think what happened was the Tom allowed the drummer to become part of ‘Celtic Frost, Inc.’ and the drummer and Martin were outvoting him on a variety of business and musical issues, so Tom was basically forced to quit to make the music he wanted to make, and thus no more Celtic Frost. That is what i’ve gotten from reading all that Tom has spewed out over the last year?

  • Sacajawea

Does anyone have a copy of Cold Lake I can have? I know most people were throwing the album away so…

    • Trux

My favorite Celtic Frost album is Cold Lake….. you should not have a problem searching for the album in a prestigious digital mp3 service…

      I got mine from mp3fiesta.

  • NoNameNoSlogan

“Abyss Within My Soul” is a pretty bad song.

  • NoNameNoSlogan

    err I meant a bad-ass song

  • Nick from hell

Finally! Monotheist is one of my favorite top 5 albums of the decade and these new songs are definitely in the same vein. I can’t wait for a full album!

  • fasshole

Monothiest has so far been crimally underrated/ looked over thus far in the best albums of the decade lists. It’s fucking phenomenal.

      agreed 100%
      fuck Martin Ain!
      Fischer is…uh.. the AWESOMEST
i was gonna say god, but that would be totally against what Tom G says.

  • Biff Tannen

You guys are all child molesters.

  • Fufkin

Well rock on Tom but I’m not convinced that ‘only death is real’ – I had a McMuffin this morning – for my sins – and it looked and tasted very real to me.

  • shit sandwich

Tom G. is such a whiny self-absorbed bitch. Reading everything he’s posted over the past year about dissolving Celtic Frost and starting this band made me want to puke because he made himself out to be so lame. Fuck this guy

That said, he is responsible for Hellhammer. and Monotheist is pretty heavy.

    • shit sandwich

Actually, let me clarify. I think the dude takes himself WAYYY too seriously

      • brian roach

yes, he is without question a pretentious asshole, and i’d hate to be in a band with him. but i sure as hell love the shit that the bands that he’s in put out. This new stuff kills…

  • myke

i was acutally diggin this and im glad to see tom continue makin music. celtic frost is among many of my favorite bands and i think Monotheist is underrated i will be pickin up this album.

    Fuckin finally.

  • izzo

    my ears just came…..

  • ECDEU

I hate this music. Black metal is almost more generic than deathcore or metalcore. The only reason it doesn’t get as much slack as both of those genres is because these guys look like a straight ICP, scaring a majority of the nerds who make up the metal community, and actually have committed crimes. I wish this genre would die already.

    • norn

triptykon in not black metal- yes, it has some elements of it (good ones), but it’s much more…

did he really name his band after a transformer?
